George Orwell's allegorical novel Animal Farm contains various anthems adopted by the eponymous farm, most notably the original anthem " Beasts of England " and its later replacement " Comrade Napoleon ".

This change is used to illustrate the corruption of the principles of the animals ' rebellion by Animal Farm's leader Napoleon.

After " Beasts of England " has been used to express criticism of the direction of Animal Farm, Napoleon tries to supplant the song, arguing that such an anthem is antiquated and no longer needed after the rebellion has been completed.

As Napoleon becomes more powerful, he replaced " Animal Farm!

" Beasts of England ", the song that came to Old Major in his dream, was later banned on Animal Farm by Napoleon, at which time it was replaced by " Comrade Napoleon ", a hymn composed by Minimus the pig that pledges allegiance to Animal Farm and to work to protect it.

The most famous story, first published in a collection called Break of Dark, is titled Blackham's Wimpy, the name of a Vickers Wellington Bomber featured in the story, whose nickname comes from the character J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye comics and cartoons ( the Wellington was named for Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, victor over Napoleon ).

The 1974 Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention release Roxy & Elsewhere contains, on the song " Dummy Up ", a reference to the city as Napoleon Murphy Brock's character is asked where he is from during a vamp in the song and he is scoffed at by Zappa when he replies he is from Reseda.

* During the season 7 episode of Smallville called " Cure ", the character of Dr. Curtis Knox ( portrayed by Dean Cain ) is an immortal who has lived for centuries under various names, and has actually been historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Jack the Ripper, as well as being an apparent member of the Nazi party.

The catchphrase was further popularised by its use in La Famille Fenouillard, the first French comic strip, in which one of the characters fulminates against " Perfidious Albion, which burnt Joan of Arc on the rock of Saint Helena " ( This is, of course, a joke – carried away by his anti-English fury the character mixes up Joan of Arc with Napoleon, who was exiled to the British island of Saint Helena ).

Baker called his character " a nut " who " thought he was Napoleon ".

However, in mid-October he learned that Napoleon was about to replace him as commanding officer with François Étienne de Rosily-Mesros and order him to Paris to account for his actions ( Napoleon had written to the Minister of Marine, " Villeneuve does not possess the strength of character to command a frigate.
