During the ensuing 15 years, many countercultural and New Left enterprises sprang up and developed large constituencies within the city.

The USSR saw Cuba as having far more appeal with new revolutionary movements, western intellectuals, and members of the New Left, given Cuba's perceived David and Goliath struggle against US " imperialism ".

FBI records show that 85 % of COINTELPRO resources targeted groups and individuals that the FBI deemed " subversive ," including communist and socialist organizations ; organizations and individuals associated with the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King, Jr. and others associated with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Congress of Racial Equality and other civil rights organizations ; black nationalist groups ; the American Indian Movement ; a broad range of organizations labeled " New Left ", including Students for a Democratic Society and the Weathermen ; almost all groups protesting the Vietnam War, as well as individual student demonstrators with no group affiliation ; the National Lawyers Guild ; organizations and individuals associated with the women's rights movement ; nationalist groups such as those seeking independence for Puerto Rico, United Ireland, and Cuban exile movements including Orlando Bosch's Cuban Power and the Cuban Nationalist Movement ; and additional notable Americans — even Albert Einstein, who was a member of several civil rights groups, came under FBI surveillance during the years just prior to COINTELPRO's official inauguration .< ref >

Upon release, the film was criticized for not addressing many current issues of the New Left such as the woman's movement, sexual liberation and worker self-management.

The CPC's current policies are fiercely rejected as capitalist by most communists, especially anti-revisionists, and by adherents of the Chinese New Left from within the PRC.

The Chinese New Left, which encompasses these Maoists and other postmodernists is a current within China that seeks to " revert China to the socialist road " – i. e., to return China to the socialist system that existed before Deng Xiaoping's reforms.

Thompson played a key role in the first New Left in Britain in the late 1950s.

The New Reasoner was the most important organ of what became known as the " New Left ", an informal movement of dissident leftists closely associated with the nascent movement for nuclear disarmament in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The New Reasoner combined with the Universities and Left Review to form New Left Review in 1960, though Thompson and others fell out with the group around Perry Anderson who took over the journal in 1962.

In 1978 he published The Poverty of Theory which attacked the structuralist Marxism of Louis Althusser and his followers in Britain on New Left Review, ( famously saying "... all of them are Geschichtenscheissenschlopff, unhistorical shit.

However, Raymond Williams in Politics and Letters: Interviews with New Left Review describes Orwell as a " successful impersonation of a plain man who bumps into experience in an unmediated way and tells the truth about it.

New for the 2005 election was the alliance between the newly formed Electoral Alternative for Labor and Social Justice ( WASG ) and the PDS, planning to fuse into a common party ( see Left Party. PDS ).

Celebrated as the " Father of the New Left ,"< ref name = kellner12 > Douglas Kellner.

He was a friend and collaborator of the political sociologist Barrington Moore, Jr. and of the political philosopher Robert Paul Wolff, and also a friend of the Columbia University sociology professor C. Wright Mills, one of the founders of the New Left movement.

Because of his willingness to speak at student protests, Marcuse soon became known as " the father of the New Left in the United States ", a term he strongly disliked and disavowed.

A Yale historian, writing a few years ago in The Yale Review, said: `` We in New England have long since segregated our children ''.

Then followed a period in which he wrote reviews for The New York Times Book Review, The Commonweal, Commentary, had a small piece in Partisan Review, and moved on to Hudson, The Village Voice, and Exodus.
