The first component of the term comes from " cybernetics ", which is derived from the Greek κυβερνήτης ( kybernētēs, steersman, governor, pilot, or rudder ), a word introduced by Norbert Wiener for his pioneering work in electronic communication and control science.

In 2001 he was awarded a British Computer Society's Lovelace Medal, and in 2005 he was made a Fellow of the Computer History Museum and honored with the Norbert Wiener Award, which is given annually by Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility.

" For his part, mathematician Norbert Wiener cited Gibbs as a major influence on his conception of cybernetics and explained in his book The Human Use of Human Beings that it was " devoted to the impact of the Gibbsian point of view on modern life, both through the substantive changes it has made to working science, and through the changes it has made indirectly in our attitude to life in general.

The term was suggested by Norbert Wiener to describe a new science of control and information in the animal and the machine.

Gardner mentions, among other examples of conjecture, Chaos, Co-ordinated, a science fiction story by John MacDougal, and cites Norbert Wiener as saying in his book Cybernetics that the human brain, just like a computing machine, probably works on a variant of the famous principle expounded by Lewis Carroll.

Norbert Rillieux ( March 17, 1806 – October 8, 1894 ), a Creole American inventor and engineer, is most noted for his invention of the multiple-effect evaporator, an energy-efficient means of evaporating water.

Norbert Rillieux died on October 8, 1894 at the age of 88.

In his honor, a bronze memorial was erected in the Louisana State Museum with the inscription: " To honor Norbert Rillieux, born at New Orleans, Louisiana, March 18, 1806 and died at Paris, France, October 8, 1894.

Lesser-known artists who depicted the Gare Saint Lazare were Jean Béraud, who painted " The Place and Pont de l ' Europe " in 1876-78 and Norbert Goeneutte ( 1854 – 1894 ), with a studio providing a very good view of the Pont de l ' Europe, who painted this scene many times in the late 1880s.

Sidis is also discussed in Ex-Prodigy, an autobiography by mathematician Norbert Wiener ( 1894 – 1964 ), who was a prodigy himself and a contemporary of Sidis at Harvard.
