After World War II, General Order No. 1 ordered the forces of the Empire of Japan in Taiwan to surrender to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek.

Japanese troops in Taiwan were directed to surrender to the representatives of the Supreme Allied Commander in the China Theater, Chiang Kai-shek ( i. e. the Republic of China military forces ) on behalf of the Allies, according to the directions of General Douglas MacArthur, head of the United States Military Government, in General Order No. 1, which was issued 2 September 1945.

Under the Local Government Provisional Order Confirmation Act 1976, part of the urban area of Drogheda, which lay in County Meath, was transferred to County Louth on 1 January 1977.

In the United Kingdom, the process known in the United States as involuntary commitment is informally known as " detaining " or " sectioning ," using various sections of the Mental Health Act 1983 ( covering England and Wales ), the Mental Health ( Northern Ireland ) Order 1986 and the Mental Health ( Care and Treatment ) ( Scotland ) Act 2003 that provide its legal basis.

On 6 December 1786, an Order in Council was issued, designating " the Eastern Coast of New South Wales, or some one or other of the Islands adjacent " as the destination for transported convicts, as required by the Transportation Act of 1784 ( 24 Geo. Taiwan was placed under the control of the Chinese Nationalist Party ( Kuomintang ) led Republic of China ( ROC ) with the issue of General Order No. 1 and the signing of the Instrument of Surrender by Imperial Japan on 25 October 1945.
