Ostracoda, a class of crustaceans, were abundant as representatives of the meiobenthos ; genera included Amphissites, Bairdia, Beyrichiopsis, Cavellina, Coryellina, Cribroconcha, Hollinella, Kirkbya, Knoxiella, and Libumella.

As well as many species and countless genera, the names of many higher taxa are also attributable to Latreille, including Thysanura, Siphonaptera, Pycnogonida, Ostracoda, Stomatopoda, Decapoda, Amphipoda, Isopoda, Xiphosura and Myriapoda.

Ostracods are a class of the Crustacea ( class Ostracoda ), sometimes known as seed shrimp.

Albemarle and Pamlico sounds in North Carolina, Great South Bay between Long Island and the barrier beaches of Fire Island in New York, Isle of Wight Bay, which separates Ocean City, Maryland from the rest of Worcester County, Maryland, Banana River in Florida, Lake Illawarra in New South Wales, Montrose Basin in Scotland, and Broad Water in Wales have all been classified as lagoons, despite their names.

South of the city centre but within the urban area is Lake Illawarra, a large lagoon.

To the south the plain reaches its maximum extent around Albion Park where it incorporates a large coastal saltwater lagoon called Lake Illawarra, separated from the Pacific Ocean by a long sandy spit.

The first Europeans to visit the area were the navigators George Bass and Matthew Flinders, who landed at Lake Illawarra in 1796.

During this trip they travelled as far down the coast as Lake Illawarra, which they called Tom Thumb Lagoon.

On Sunday 5 January 1975, at 9: 27 p. m. Australian Eastern Summer Time, the Tasman Bridge was struck by the bulk ore carrier Lake Illawarra, bound for the Electrolytic Zinc Company with a cargo of 10, 000 tons of zinc concentrate.

The depth of the river at this point ( 35 metres ( 115 ft ) is such that the wreck of Lake Illawarra still lies on the bottom, with concrete slab on top of it, without presenting a navigation hazard to smaller vessels.

Lake Illawarra is a large coastal lagoon located in the city of Wollongong about 100 km south of Sydney, New South Wales.

Located in the Wollongong urban area, Lake Illawarra is popular for recreational fishing, prawning and sailing.

The book " Lake Illawarra: an ongoing history " by Joseph Davis was published by the Lake Illawarra Authority in 2005 and provides a wide-ranging environmental and historical ' biography ' of the Lake and its foreshores.

On 12 January 2009, it is suspected a man was bitten by a bull shark whilst snorkelling at Windang near the mouth of Lake Illawarra.

The Lake Illawarra Authority published two more books about the Lake in 2012.

The second of these books, titled " Gooseberry & Hooka: the island reserves of Lake Illawarra 1829-1947 " edited by Joseph Davis ; records by John Brown and others deals with the history of these two islands and how they have survived to become nature refuges rather than recreation reserves.

A pollution prevention, control, and restoration plan for Lake Champlain was first endorsed in October 1996 by the governors of New York and Vermont and the regional administrators of the EPA ( United States Environmental Protection Agency ).

The Washington Environmental Council hired environmental consultants, who demonstrated that the plan would be particularly harmful to New Preston and Lake Waramaug.

Elementary schools include Monroe, Birch Grove, Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy of Math & Environmental Science ( formlery Riverview ), Palmer Lake, Edinbrook, Crest View, Fair Oaks, Meadowbrook, Park Brook, Woodland and Zanewood.

Within the borders are two state parks: Wonder Lake in the east and Fahnestock in the west, as well as a portion of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and thousands of acres of spectacular open spaces under the permanent protection of the New York Department of Environmental Protection.

The primary investigations were stimulated by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, who funded the development of the DSSAM model to analyze water quality below Lake Tahoe.

The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center is dedicated to research, education and public outreach, and to providing objective scientific information for restoration and sustainable use of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

In 1999 the Memphis District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE ) prepared the Reelfoot Lake Tennessee and Kentucky Final Feasibility Report and Final Environmental Impact Statement, September 1999 ( EIS ) in four volumes.

Although the presence of organic pollutants had been substantially reduced by the mid 1980s, the US Environmental Protection Agency and Washington State Department of Ecology required additional measures, including removing and capping wastes, and air sparging in the Southeast portion of the site to try to remove benzene that was a theoretical source of pollutants reaching Lake Union via ground water.

The Corps has previously stated that any revision of the SMP will require the completion of a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement ( SEIS ) for the entire Lake Texoma project that will consider the cumulative impacts of the extensive development that has occurred around the Lake since the original EIS was conducted in the 1970s.

Due to the increasingly high levels of lake pollution, E. coli bacteria, and related algae levels, Grand Lake could be dying off as a destination lake and is considered by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to be " impaired " due to " stream channelization, drainage tiles, loss of floodplains and streamside vegetation, manure runoff and untreated sewage flowing from failing home septic systems and small communities without any wastewater collection or treatment.

In December 2006, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, working with members of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency treated Candlewood Lake for its eelgrass and algae issues with an organic phosphate ; the initial results appeared promising.

In addition, GC operates a large recreational area on Lake Laurel ( approximately 15 minutes from the central campus ) which is used by students in the university's Environmental Science and Outdoor Education programs.
