A major incident occurred in 1978, when the police raided their Powelton Village home.

The MOVE members lived in a commune in a house owned by Donald Glassey in the Powelton Village section of West Philadelphia.

On August 8, 1978, an end was negotiated to an almost year-long standoff with police over orders to vacate the Powelton Village MOVE house.

The first major clash occurred in 1978 at the group's Powelton Village headquarters, resulting in the death of a police officer.

Within these boundaries are the local neighborhoods of Cedar Park, Garden Court, Spruce Hill, Squirrel Hill, Powelton Village, Walnut Hill, and Woodland Terrace.

The neighborhood's northern and western reaches are predominantly working-class and African American, although its southern border with Powelton Village has seen recent gentrification and an influx of Drexel University student renters.

In recent developments the Powelton Civic Association have begun open attacks and complaints against local landlords in the neighborhood who rent to students in the neighborhood.

University City's boundaries, as defined by the non-profit University City District organization and the City of Philadelphia, are the Schuylkill River to the east ; Spring Garden Street, Powelton Avenue, and Market Street to the north ; 52nd Street to the west ; and Woodland Avenue, University Avenue, and Civic Center Boulevard to the south.

The complex, which is maintained by the Village of Bethalto, replaced the old baseball and soccer fields located at Civic Memorial High School for varsity and junior varsity baseball, softball and soccer teams.

Five of the six halls are located South East of the city centre, between the St Mary's and Ocean Village areas of the Southampton, while Emily Davies is located to the north west of the city centre, near to the Southampton Civic Centre.

The CVCBD was formed in 1994 through the efforts of the Charles Village Civic Association ( CVCA ), led by its then-president Ed Hargadon ; the South Charles Village Business Association, led at the time by the managing partner of Whitman, Requardt & Associates, Tom Shafer ; and the Greater Homewood Community Corporation ( GHCC ), whose executive director was former CVCA president Sandra Sparks.

The Village of Cooperstown ( home of James Fenimore Cooper ), located at the south end of Otsego Lake, attracts many tourists to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the New York State Historical Association museums.

Another large event in the summer is the annual art show sponsored by the Village Art Association of Lititz, along with the craft show sponsored by the Lititz Rotary Club, which extends from the Lititz Springs Park out into Broad Street ( PA-501 ) and Main Street ( PA-772 ).

There is a memorial fountain in Dulwich Village which is in remembrance to Dr George Webster, founder of the first British Medical Association ( BMA ), who worked in Dulwich from 1815 until his death in 1875.

Village meetings are held in a local hotel, and the Village contracts with an engineer, attorney, Mettawa Open Lands Association, and various consultants for operational services.

The Mettawa Open Lands Association ( MOLA ) is a non-profit organization which promotes quality open space within the Village and encourages the protection of public and private open lands.

By 1949, Prairie Village was named the best planned community in America by the National Association of Home Builders.

Today, the Historic Village of Grand Cane is strongly supported by members of the Historic Grand Cane Association, the Elected Officials of the Village, and a host of supporters, whose common goal is to keep alive the presence of yesterday as a constant reminder of the importance of preserving our unique past for future generations.

The Greater Rock Hall Business Association supports and promotes an eclectic array of retail shops that are located on the Main St. shopping area and an all-new Rock Hall Village located at the end of the street.

The Wenham Historical Association and Museum became independent from the Village Improvement Society and underwent a major renovation and expansion in 1997.

The Waushacum Village Homeowner's Association, however, being a private neighborhood southeast of the Sterling Junction, employs a system in which the land is leased from the neighborhood committee, which creates low house valuations in the area.

The Waushacum Village Homeowner's Association is also the only neighborhood in Sterling that operates a unified sewage and waste management system.

Adrian's Frontier Village is the site of the annual Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association Gas and Steam Engine Show, now in its 32nd year.
