On 25 January 1939, a Columbia University team conducted the first nuclear fission experiment in the United States, which was done in the basement of Pupin Hall ; the members of the team were Herbert L. Anderson, Eugene T. Booth, John R. Dunning, Enrico Fermi, G. Norris Glasoe, and Francis G. Slack.

Campbell and Pupin extended Heaviside's work, and AT & T filed for patents covering not only their research, but also the technical method of constructing the coils previously invented by Heaviside.
AT & T fought a legal battle with Pupin over his claim.
By January 1901 Pupin had been paid $ 200, 000 and by 1917, when the AT & T monopoly ended and payments ceased, he had received a total of $ 455, 000.
Pupin patents were bought up immediately American Telephone & Telegraph ( AT & T ) and in Europe Siemens company and thus pupinization began a " triumphant way.
Although AT & T bought Pupin's patent, they made little use of it, as they already had their own development in hand led by George Campbell and had up to this point been challenging Pupin with Campbell's own patent.

In the 1890s Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin would both create the loading coils and receive a patent of them.
Loading coils are archaically known as Pupin coils after Mihajlo Pupin ( especially when used for the Heaviside condition ), and the process of inserting them is sometimes called pupinization.
Pupin filed a rival patent to the one of Campbell's.
The confusion is easy to understand, Pupin himself claims that he first thought of the idea of loading coils while climbing a mountain in 1894, although there is nothing from him published at that time.
To add to the confusion, one variant of the capacitor scheme proposed by Pupin does indeed have coils.
Pupin states that the inductance is to be so large that it will block all AC signals above 50 Hz.
