Sultan Said Ali bin Said Omar of Grande Comore ( 1897 )

In 1886 Said Ali bin Said Omar, Sultan of Bambao, signed an agreement with the French government that allowed France to establish a protectorate over the entire island of Ngazidja ( Grande Comore ; protectorates were also established over Ndzwani ( Anjouan ), and Mwali ( Mohéli island in French ) the same year.

In 1865 or 1866 Sultan Majid bin Said of Zanzibar began building a new city very close to Mzizima and named it Dar es Salaam.

The death of Sa ' id bin Sultan in 1856 prompted a further division: the descendants of the late sultan ruled Muscat and Oman ( Thuwaini ibn Said Al-Busaid, r. 1856 – 1866 ) and Zanzibar ( Mayid ibn Said Al-Busaid, r. 1856 – 1870 ); the Qais branch intermittently allied itself with the ulama to restore imamate legitimacy.

In 1970, Qaboos bin Said Al Said ousted his father, Sa ' id bin Taymur, who later died in exile in London.

When Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said assumed power in 1970, Oman had limited contacts with the outside world, including neighbouring Arab states.

The position of Sultan of Muscat would remain in the possession of the Al Said clan even when the imamate of Oman remained out of reach.

Schisms within the ruling family were apparent before Ahmad ibn Said's death in 1783 and were later manifest with the division of the family into two main lines, the Sultan ibn Ahmad Al Said ( r. 1792 – 1806 ) line controlling the maritime state, with nominal control over the entire country ; and the Qais branch, with authority over the Al Batinah and Ar Rustaq areas.

During the period of Sultan Said ibn Sultan Al Said's rule ( 1806 – 1856 ), Oman cultivated its East African colonies, profiting from the slave trade.

In the hope of saving this rare animal, Sultan Qabus ibn Said has declared part of the mountain a national park.

Its capital, Salalah, was the permanent residence of Sultan Said ibn Taimur Al Said and the birthplace of the present sultan, Qabus ibn Said.

In the early nineteenth centuries, continuing bloody conflict involved not only the Al Khalifa, the Al Jalahima, and the Iranians but also the Omanis under Sayyid Said ibn Sultan Al Said, the nascent Wahhabis of Arabia, and the Ottomans.

Colonel Azali Assoumani seized power in a bloodless coup in April 1999, overthrowing Interim President Tadjidine Ben Said Massounde, who himself had held the office since the death of democratically elected President Mohamed Taki Abdoulkarim in November, 1998.

Travelling via Athens, Port Said, Cairo and Aden, Albert Victor arrived in Bombay on 9 November 1889.

In October 1996 he announced his resignation as party leader, and on November 10, 1996 was formally succeeded by Said Musa.

Said Pasha invited de Lesseps to pay him a visit, and on 7 November 1854 he landed at Alexandria ; on the 30th of the same month Said Pasha signed the concession authorizing him to build the Suez Canal.

These were forty former French Jedburgh volunteers who embarked at Glascow with layover at Port Said, Bombay and Colombo, and gathered in a camp at Ceylon on November 1944. Notable Force 136 members dropped in Laos during 1945 are French Colonels Jean Deuve ( January 22 ), Jean Le Morillon ( February 28 ) and Jean Sassi ( June 4 ).

Qaboos bin Said Al Said ( ; born 18 November 1940 ) is the Sultan of Oman and its Dependencies.

Accompanied by Major Thomas Blamey, Chauvel sailed for Egypt on the ocean liner on 28 November 1914, arriving at Port Said on 10 December 1914.

Said to have been able to speak with a voice that resembled a squeak, he was actually one of the most intelligent players of his time, and is sometimes credited with developing the hand signals used by umpires to this day, though this view is widely disputed ; Cy Rigler is believed to have created signals for balls and strikes while working in the minor leagues ( although, in the November 6, 1886 issue of The Sporting News, the deaf pitcher Ed Dundon is credited as using hand signals while umpiring a game in Mobile, Alabama on October 20 of that year ), and Bill Klem is credited with introducing those signals to the major leagues.

On November 26, 1989, he was shot dead in his Moroni office during a coup led by Ali Soilih's half-brother, Said Mohamed Djohar.

( Sayyid ) Said bin Sultan Al-Said (, ) ( 5 June 5 1797 – 19 October 1856 ) was Sultan of Muscat and Oman from 20 November 1804 to 4 June 1856.

The second time this occurred was after the cast took a three-week hiatus, when Garrison presented the ' Top 20 Things Said in Channel Over the Past Three Weeks '.
