The town is centred around the Place de la Liberation ( previously the Place Porta ), at the edge of which is the church of Sainte Marie.

Its principal civil engineering components are the Welland Canal, bypassing Niagara Falls between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, and the Soo Locks, bypassing the rapids of the St. Marys River between Lake Superior and Lake Huron, at Sault Sainte Marie.

The Newberry High School football team competes each year for the Little Brown Jug of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a rivalry game with Sault Sainte Marie dating back to 1913.

Local concern for the protection of the Great Lakes inter-lake navigation locks named Soo Locks at the trans-border area of Sault Sainte Marie prompted area citizens to propose that the U. S. Army Air Forces take over the new airfield.

On 8 November 1958 the Sault Sainte Marie Air Defense Sector ( SsmADS ) was established at K. I. Sawyer AFB.

In 1961 the 56th Fighter Wing was discontinued and the host unit at K. I. Sawyer became the Sault Sainte Marie ADS.

St. Paul Parochial School, a private Pre-K through eighth grade parish school, was founded in 1844 by six Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as Sainte Marie de Willamette.

As an architect, Xenakis is primarily known for his early work under Le Corbusier: the Sainte Marie de La Tourette, on which the two architects collaborated, and the Philips Pavilion at Expo 58, which Xenakis designed alone.

These included a kindergarten on the roof of an apartment block in Nantes ( Rezé ), parts of government buildings in Chandigarh, India, the " undulatory glass surfaces " of Sainte Marie de La Tourette, a Dominican priory in a valley near Lyon, and the Philips Pavilion at Expo 58 — the latter project was completed by Xenakis alone, from a basic sketch by Le Corbusier.

In 1653 a peace invitation was extended by the Onondaga Nation to New France and an expedition of Jesuits, led by Simon Le Moyne, established Sainte Marie de Ganentaa in 1656.

Air Bourbon was a short-lived airline headquartered at Roland Garros Airport in Sainte Marie, Réunion.

The Palais de Justice (), located in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, France, is built on the site of the former royal palace of Saint Louis, of which the Sainte Chapelle remains.

The precise location is not known, however, most sources say it stretched from the Bay of Antongil to Mananjary, including Île Sainte Marie and Foulpointe.

It housed the Holy Ampulla ( Sainte Ampoule ) containing the Saint Chrême ( chrism ), allegedly brought by a white dove ( the Holy Spirit ) at the baptism of Clovis in 496.

Sainte Chapelle.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Gothic architecture is the expansive area of the windows as at Sainte Chapelle and the very large size of many individual windows, as at York Minster, Gloucester Cathedral and Milan Cathedral.

It can be seen at St Stephen's Vienna, Sainte Chapelle in Paris, at the Cathedrals of Limoges and Rouen in France, and at Milan Cathedral in Italy.

Soon after, Saint Waltrude ( in French Sainte Waudru ), daughter of one of Clotaire II ’ s intendants, came to the oratory and was proclaimed a saint upon her death in 688.

To the north of Marseille, beyond the low Garlaban and Etoile mountain ranges, is the Mont Sainte Victoire.
