In the Sefer ha-Yarḥi, Abba Mari refers to the great caution shown by the rabbis of old as regards the teaching of the mysteries of philosophy, and recommended by men like the Hai Gaon, Maimonides, and David Kimhi.
According to a Jewish legend, one of the Essenes, named Menachem, had passed at least some of his mystical knowledge to the Talmudic mystic Nehunya ben HaKanah, to whom the Kabbalistic tradition attributes Sefer HaBahir and, by some opinions, Sefer HaKanah, Sefer HaPeliah and Sefer HaTemunah.
Sefer Mitzvot Katan (" SeMaK ") by Isaac ben Joseph of Corbeil is an abridgement of the SeMaG, including additional practical Halakhah, as well as agaddic and ethical material.
Other compilations include Sefer Hapardes, edited by Rabbi Shemayah, Rashi's student, and Sefer Haoraah, prepared by Rabbi Nathan Hamachiri.
Voluminous supercommentaries have been published on Rashi's commentaries on the Bible and Talmud, including Gur Aryeh by Rabbi Judah Loew ( the Maharal ), Sefer ha-Mizrachi by Rabbi Elijah Mizrachi ( the Re ' em ), and Yeri ' ot Shlomo by Rabbi Solomon Luria ( the Maharshal ).
Another important work is the Sefer ha-Mafteaḥ ( Book of the Key ) by Nissim Gaon, which contains a preface explaining the different forms of Talmudic argumentation and then explains abbreviated passages in the Talmud by cross-referring to parallel passages where the same thought is expressed in full.
Commentaries ( ḥiddushim ) by Joseph ibn Migash on two tractates, Bava Batra and Shevuot, based on Ḥananel and Alfasi, also survive, as does a compilation by Zechariah Aghmati called Sefer ha-Ner.
This has also been pointed out by R ' David Luria in his work " Kadmus Sefer Ha ' Zohar.
His most important treatise, that by which he has a place in the history of philosophy, is entitled Sefer Milhamot Ha-Shem, (" The Wars of the Lord "), and occupied twelve years in composition ( 1317 – 1329 ).
Maaseh Hoshev is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Sefer Hamispar ( The Book of Number ), which is an earlier and less sophisticated work by Rabbi Abraham ben Meir Ibn Ezra ( 1090 – 1167 ).
The complete commentary on the Pentateuch, which, as has already been mentioned, was finished by Ibn Ezra shortly before his death, was called Sefer ha-Yashar (" Book of the Straight ").

Sefer and Rabbi
Rabbi Chaim Volozhin ( Lithuania 1749 – 1821 ) reports in an introduction to Siphra Dzeniouta ( 1818 ) that he once presented to his teacher, the Vilna Gaon, ten different versions of a certain passage in the Sefer Yetzira and asked the Gaon to determine the correct text.

In the Sefer Hekalot, Rabbi Ishmael is described as having visited the 7th Heaven, where he meets Enoch, who claims that earth had, in his time, been corrupted by the demons Shammazai, and Azazel, and so Enoch was taken to Heaven to prove that God was not cruel.

In the 13th century, * Meir ben Simon of Narbonne wrote an epistle ( included in Milhhemet Mitzvah ) against early Kabbalists, singled out Sefer Bahir, rejecting the attribution of its authorship to the tanna R. Nehhunya ben ha-Kanah and describing some of its content as follow -
Sefer HaYashar, (, the Book of the Upright ) is a famous treatise on Jewish ritual authored by Rabbenu Tam, ( Rabbi Jacob ben Meir, 1100 – 1171 ).
It appeared under the title Darke Teshubah at the end of the responsa of Meir of Rothenburg in the Prague edition ; as Inyane Teshubah, or Seder Teshubah, in the Sephardic ritual of 1584 ; as Yesod Teshubah, with additions by Isaac ben Moses Elles, first published in 1583 ; as Yore Ḥaṭṭa ' im ba-Derek ; and as Sefer ha-Kapparot.
