* Sly Sludge ( voiced by Martin Sheen in 1990 – 1992, Jim Cummings in 1993 – 1995 ) – An unscrupulous trashman who represents ignorance and the dangers of short-term thinking.

Zarm once united Hoggish Greedly, Looten Plunder, Sly Sludge, Duke Nukem, Verminous Skumm, and Dr. Blight under his leadership in the two-part episode " Summit to Save Earth ".

" Character names are changed, plot points are altered ( Kate has two sisters for example, not one ), the play is set in Athens instead of Padua, Sly continues to comment on events throughout the play, and entire speeches are completely different ( lines from other plays are also found in A Shrew, especially from Marlowe's Tamburlaine ), all of which suggests that the author / reporter of A Shrew thought he ( or she ) was working on something different to Shakespeare's play, not simply transcribing it.

Evidence of at least some initial societal discomfort with The Shrew is found in a contemporary alternative version that has Christopher Sly being " by his wife for dreaming here tonight " at the end of the play, suggesting that there was a market for an audience who were comfortable with the women ' winning '.

Critics have argued about the meaning of the Induction for many years, and according to Oliver, " it has become orthodoxy to claim to find in the Induction the same ' theme ' as is to be found in both the Bianca and the Katherine-Petruchio plots of the main play, and to take it for granted that identity of theme is a merit and ' justifies ' the introduction of Sly.

In 1931, Harcourt Williams used the conclusion of A Shrew ( in which, after the Petruchio / Katherina story is finished, the Lord returns the now sleeping Sly to the inn where he was found, and who, upon waking up, announces he has had a dream in which he has learned how to tame his own wife ).

Sly has been deeply moved by his dream, and the play ends with him condemning the subjugation of women and embracing his wife.

It was named after its discoverer William S. Sly ( 1932 -), an American Biochemist, in 1969 who has spent nearly his entire academic career at Saint Louis University.

Sly syndrome has an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance.

Almost the whole of The Taming of the Shrew is a play-within-a-play, presented to convince Christopher Sly, a drunken tinker, that he is a nobleman watching a private performance, but the device has no relevance to the plot ( unless Katharina's subservience to her " lord " in the last scene is intended to strengthen the deception against the tinker ) and is often dropped in modern productions.

He has been cited as one of the foremost innovators of funk music, along with James Brown and Sly Stone.

Since the late 1980s, Worrell has recorded extensively with Bill Laswell, including Sly and Robbie's Laswell-produced Rhythm Killers.

Noddy is kind and honest, but he often gets in trouble, either through his own misunderstandings, or because someone ( usually the naughty goblins Sly and Gobbo ) has played a trick on him.

He was a member of the seminal Congolese rumba group African Jazz, and has collaborated with many other musicians, including Fania All Stars, Fela Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Bernie Worrell, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Don Cherry, and Sly and Robbie.

The Stax labels ' profits were cut severely, particularly since the CBS distribution agents bypassed the traditional small mom-and-pop record sellers in the black community which had been the backbone of Stax's distribution, and weren't pushing the Stax product to the larger retailers for fear of undercutting rack space for CBS R & B artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, and Sly & the Family Stone.

The group's sound is inspired by successful 1970s funk bands such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Sly & the Family Stone, another multicultural band composed of former members of the Church of God in Christ.

First performed at La Scala in Milan, the opera starred Aureliano Pertile as Sly ( tenor ) and Mercedes Llopart as Dolly ( soprano ).

The Great Society had recorded an early version of " Somebody to Love " ( under the title " Someone to Love ") as the B-side of their only single, " Free Advice ", produced by Sylvester Stewart ( soon to become famous as Sly Stone ).

The symptoms of Sly syndrome are similar to those of Hurler syndrome ( MPS I ).

Some prominent bass guitar players known for their use of slapping in their playing include Bootsy Collins ( solo artist ; Bootsy's Rubber Band, Funkadelic, Parliament, Praxis ), Flea ( Red Hot Chili Peppers ), Larry Graham ( Sly and the Family Stone, Graham Central Station ), Marcus Miller ( solo artist, Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Luther Vandross ), Louis Johnson ( The Brothers Johnson, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson ), Nick Beggs ( Kajagoogoo ), Mark King ( Level 42 ), Mike Gordon ( Phish ), Les Claypool ( solo artist, Primus ), Fieldy ( Korn ), Jayen Varma ( solo artist ), Tetsuya ( L ' Arc-en-Ciel ).

The band began to disintegrate ; their next album with Jammy was started but never completed, they stopped working with Sly and Robbie, and Jones left the band due to ill health ( she died in 1990 from cancer ).

The group's origins lie in the late 1980s pairing of Doug McCombs ( bassist with Eleventh Dream Day ) and drummer John Herndon, who imagined themselves as a freelance rhythm section ( like reggae legends Sly and Robbie ).

Graham Central Station is a funk band named after founder Larry Graham ( formerly of Sly & the Family Stone ).

They are bass player Tiffani Smith ( Kelly Packard ), drummer Tony Wicks ( William James Jones ) and the teen manager of the band, Sly Winkle ( Michael Cade ).

He continued to appear on the New York stage both on Broadway ( Three Sisters, Two Shakespearean Actors, Arms and the Man ) and off-Broadway ( The Importance of Being Earnest, The Glass Menagerie, Sly Fox and Our Town ).

" Pray For Grace " and " Bomb The World ( Armageddon Version )" pair Franti with the reggae / funk giants Sly and Robbie ( Grace Jones, Rolling Stones, Black Uhuru, No Doubt ).

The Wolfman theme, Sly & the Family Stone's " I Want To Take You Higher ", had not yet been cleared, so the opening was altered with new music by The Tijuana Bibles from Toronto, and Billy Van's voice was redubbed by another Toronto voice actor ( Van died in 2003 ).

Later he worked with the small San Francisco label Autumn Records, founded by disc jockeys Tom Donahue, Bobby Mitchell and Sylvester Stewart ( who later became famous as Sly Stone ).

Laswell retained the Material name and was calling upon a large group of musicians with, at its core, guitarist Nicky Skopelitis, keyboardist Jeff Bova, percussionist Aiyb Dieng, former Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell and bassist Bootsy Collins, plus Jamaican reggae duo Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare ( Sly and Robbie ).

Sly and Robbie also played on Bob Dylan's albums Infidels and Empire Burlesque ( using recordings from the Infidels sessions ).
