In 1979 Chrysalis bought and distributed the U. S. folk label Takoma Records, naming manager / producer Denny Bruce as president, who signed The Fabulous Thunderbirds and T-Bone Burnett.

Jon Monday who was Vice President of Takoma Records prior to the acquisition continued as General Manager, later becoming Director of Marketing of Chrysalis Records.

He recorded 6-and 12-String Guitar ( also known as the " Armadillo album " after the animal pictured on its cover ) for John Fahey's Takoma Records later the same year.

Starting in the early 1960s, Takoma Park native John Fahey became a nationally noted blues and folk guitarist who established the Takoma Records label, which attracted a number of other blues, folk, acoustic and fingerstyle guitarists to the Washington, D. C. area.

Kicking Mule Records was an independent American record label founded in Berkeley, California in 1971 by guitarist Stefan Grossman and Eugene " ED " Denson, formerly co-owner of Takoma Records.

In the early 1990s Fantasy Records bought both Takoma and Kicking Mule from Denson and soon began to re-release selected LPs on CD.

Batholomew's work as a busy " session " vocalist and instrumentalist in Hollywood drew the attention of Takoma Records Denny Bruce in 1981 and Bart wrote produced and performed the Takoma records release " The Roulettes " a pop rock project of his own.

Takoma is bounded by Georgia Avenue to the west, somewhere between Tuckerman and Van Buren Streets to the south, and Eastern Avenue to the northeast.

Takoma, D. C. was originally regarded as the commercial hub for the entire surrounding area, prior to the development of Silver Spring, as it featured large shops and industrial buildings in the area now occupied by the Metro station.

Both Takoma, D. C., and Takoma Park, Maryland, were noted regionally and nationally for progressive politics dating from the 1960s, when area residents ( led by future Takoma Park, MD mayor Sam Abbott ) rallied to prevent a 10-lane freeway from bisecting the community, and lobbied to build the Metrorail system, on the site of the former B & O railroad station around which the community had been built.
