Tan and Book
The Records of the Grand Historian by Sima Tan ( d. 110 BCE ) and his son Sima Qian ( 145 – 86 BCE ) established the standard model for all of imperial China's Standard Histories, such as the Book of Han written by Ban Biao ( 3 – 54 CE ), his son Ban Gu ( 32 – 92 CE ), and his daughter Ban Zhao ( 45 – 116 CE ).
The puzzle was originally popularized by The Eighth Book Of Tan, a fictitious history of Tangram, which claimed that the game was invented 4, 000 years prior by a god named Tan.

Tan and Later
In spring 417, Tan Daoji and another general, Shen Linzi ( 沈林子 ), engaged in a major campaign with Later Qin's most prominent general, Yao Shao ( 姚紹 ) the Duke of Lu, the uncle of the emperor Yao Hong.
Later, when Cao Cao defeated Yuan Tan in the Battle of Nanpi, Zang Ba went personally to Cao Cao to congratulate him on his great victory.
In 918, Wu, which was then ruled by Yang Wo's brother and successor Yan Longyan, launched a major attack, commanded by the general Liu Xin ( 劉信 ), on Tan Quanbo the military governor of Baisheng Circuit ( 百勝, headquartered in modern Ganzhou, Jiangxi ), who was ruling the circuit in independence but whose nominal allegiance had vacillated between Wu and Later Liang.

Tan and Han
His father, Sima Tan, served as the Prefect of the Grand Scribes of Emperor Wu of Han ( Emperor " Han Wudi ").
During the Tang period, the ornate, artificial style of prose developed in previous periods was replace by a simple, direct, and forceful prose based on examples from the Hundred Schools ( see above ) and from the Han period, the period in which the great historical works of Sima Tan and Sima Qian were published.
