When Mircea Ciobanul was deposed by the Ottoman Empire ( Wallachia's overlord ) in the spring of 1554, Bucharest was ravaged by Janissary troops ; violence again occurred after Mircea returned to the throne and attacked those who had been loyal to Pătraşcu cel Bun ( February 1558 ), during the 1574 conflict between Vintilă and Alexandru II Mircea, and under the rule of Alexandru cel Rău ( early 1590s ).

This was probably not his first experience with drugs: vague mentions in his notebooks have been read as indication that Mircea Eliade was taking opium during his travels to Calcutta.

It was also during that period that Mircea Eliade completed his voluminous and influential History of Religious Ideas, which grouped together the overviews of his main original interpretations of religious history.

In August 1954, when Horia Sima, who led the Iron Guard during its exile, was rejected by a faction inside the movement, Mircea Eliade's name was included on a list of persons who supported the latter — although this may have happened without his consent.

Eliade's Iphigenia was again included in theater programs during the late years of the Nicolae Ceauşescu regime: in January 1982, a new version, directed by Ion Cojar, premiered at the National Theater Bucharest, starring Mircea Albulescu, Tania Filip and Adrian Pintea in some of the main roles.

In March 2007, on Eliade's 100th birthday, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company hosted the Mircea Eliade Week, during which radio drama adaptations of several works were broadcast.

In September of that year, director and dramatist Cezarina Udrescu staged a multimedia performance based on a number of works Mircea Eliade wrote during his stay in Portugal ; titled Apocalipsa după Mircea Eliade (" The Apocalypse According to Mircea Eliade "), and shown as part of a Romanian Radio cultural campaign, it starred Ion Caramitru, Oana Pellea and Răzvan Vasilescu.

Also during the golden age came the epoch of Romanian philosophy with such figures as Mircea Vulcănescu, Dimitrie Gusti, Alexandru Dragomir, and Vasile Conta.

It became the capital of the Wallachian voivodship, probably during the reign of Mircea cel Bătrân.

Râmnicu Vâlcea was first attested during the rule of Prince Mircea cel Bătrân, as " the princely town of Râmnic " ( September 4, 1388 ), and confirmed as the seat of a Vâlcea County during the same period ( January 8, 1392 ).

It was first mentioned in Codex Latinus Parisinus in 1395, during the reign of Mircea I of Wallachia, and was conquered by the Ottomans in 1420 as a way to control the Danube traffic.

He also mentioned on his official Twitter page that Mircea Badea was the first TV host to have the group on the air in 1996, during the morning show he presented at Tele 7 abc with Teo Trandafir.

The war in the Balkans began as the Ottoman army moved to recapture Wallachia, which the Ottomans had lost to Mircea I of Wallachia during the Interregnum and that now was a Hungarian vassal state.

Vlad I, known as Uzurpatorul ( The Usurper ), was a ruler of the principality of Wallachia, ( 1394 – 1397 ), during the reign of Mircea I of Wallachia, usurping the throne but only lasting 3 years.

However, Mircea II had a strong following, and retained a strong army during this period.

Basarab II ruled during a turbulent time in Wallachia, now part of present day Romania, with his rule falling between that of the father and son rule of Vlad Dracul and Mircea II.

The region remained under Wallachian influence until the early 14th century, during the reign of Mircea the Elder, when the area was integrated into Moldavia by prince Alexander the Kind in still not fully clarified circumstances.

On October 10 near Nicopolis, some 7, 000 Wallachian cavalrymen under Mircea II, one of Vlad Dracul's sons, also joined.

The byname " elder " was given to him after his death in order to distinguish him from his grandson Mircea II (" Mircea the Younger ").

He was the father to Vlad II Dracul and grandfather of Mircea II, Vlad the Impaler ( Dracula ), Vlad Călugărul and Radu the Handsome.

All of these would at one time or the other rule Wallachia, with Mircea II and Vlad Ţepeş both being able military commanders ( the latter would eventually become one of the most notorious leaders in history, and the inspiration for the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker ).

She had 3 brothers and 2 sisters: Carol, future King of Romania ( Carol II ); Nicholas, Prince of Romania ; Elisabeta, Princess of Romania and future Queen of Greece ; Ileana, Princess of Romania and future Archduchess of Austria ( Tuscan line ); and another brother, Mircea, who died at 3 years old.

In addition to Vlad Ţepeş, Radu also had two older half-brothers, Mircea II and Vlad Călugărul, both of whom would also briefly rule Wallachia.

He was the father of Mircea II, Vlad Călugărul (), Vlad III Dracula, who became posthumously known by the epithet Ţepeş (), and Radu III the Beautiful.

Vlad II Dracul was a member of the House of Drăculeşti lineage, and son of Mircea cel Bătrân, and was known to have murdered members of the rival princely House of Dăneşti, a not-so-distant relation to his own father's House of Basarab, and gained power in Wallachia, upon returning from exile in Transylvania in 1436.

Mircea II ascended to the throne in 1442, as Vlad Dracul was in the Ottoman court negotiating for support from the Ottomans in an effort to better defend his rule against the John Hunyadi, the voivode of Transylvania.

In 1443, Mircea II was ousted from the throne by an invading army led by Hunyadi, and was forced to flee.

Mircea II suported his father, but did not support his politics with the Ottoman Empire.

Mircea II led Wallachian forces in a successful campaign against the Ottomans with the full knowledge of his father, but with no support or opposition from him.

An able military commander, Mircea II successfully recaptured the fortress of Giurgiu in 1445.

Pope Eugene IV absolved Dracul of his promise, but demanded that he send his son Mircea II instead ( it is likely that Vlad II had originally denied the request in an effort to prevent his sons from being convoked ).

The Christian army was destroyed in the Battle of Varna ; Hunyadi escaped the scene, and was blamed by many, including Mircea II and his father, for the debacle.

In 1410 he was defeated and killed by his brother Musa, who won the Ottoman Balkans with the support of Byzantine Emperor Manuel II, Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarevic, Wallachian Voievod Mircea, and the two last Bulgarian rulers ’ sons.

He had two older half-brothers, Mircea II and Vlad Călugărul, and a younger brother, Radu III the Handsome.

He was envious of his father's preference for his elder brother, Mircea II and half brother, Vlad Călugărul.
