* 1462 – Vlad III the Impaler attempts to assassinate Mehmed II ( The Night Attack ) forcing him to retreat from Wallachia.

The Pope did, however, influence Vlad III Dracula — whom the Pope held in high regard — in starting a war against Sultan Mehmed II of Turkey.

* Alexandru I Aldea is replaced as ruler of Wallachia by Vlad II Dracul.

* June 17 – Vlad III Dracula attempts to assassinate Mehmed II in The Night Attack, forcing Mehmed to retreat from Wallachia.

* August 20 – Vladislav II, reigning Prince of Wallachia, is killed in battle by Vlad III Dracula, who succeeds him.

* Vlad III the Impaler becomes reigning Prince of Wallachia for two months before being deposed by Vladislav II.

On October 10 near Nicopolis, some 7, 000 Wallachian cavalrymen under Mircea II, one of Vlad Dracul's sons, also joined.

He was the father to Vlad II Dracul and grandfather of Mircea II, Vlad the Impaler ( Dracula ), Vlad Călugărul and Radu the Handsome.

All of these would at one time or the other rule Wallachia, with Mircea II and Vlad Ţepeş both being able military commanders ( the latter would eventually become one of the most notorious leaders in history, and the inspiration for the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker ).

On his way home, Vlad II Dracul of Wallachia imprisoned Hunyadi ; only the threats of the palatine of Hungary brought the Wallachian ruler, theoretically an ally of Hunyadi against the Ottomans, to release him.

The response was a massive invasion led by Mehmed II who drove Vlad III from the throne and replaced him with his brother, Radu III the Fair ( 1462 – 1475 ).

They were both sons of Vlad II Dracul ( Dracul: the dragon ) and his wife, Princess Cneajna of Moldavia.

In addition to Vlad Ţepeş, Radu also had two older half-brothers, Mircea II and Vlad Călugărul, both of whom would also briefly rule Wallachia.

In 1436, Vlad II Dracul ascended the throne of Wallachia.

Vlad Dracul, the ruler of Wallachia, the father of the notorious Vlad Dracula, was imprisoned here, as he had fallen into disgrace with Hunyadi, not providing the help promised.

The Wallachian prince Vlad Dracul ( father of Vlad the Impaler ( Dracula ), who lived in exile in the town, let coins to be minted in the city ( otherwise coinage was the monopoly of the Hungarian kings in the Kingdom of Hungary ) and issued the first document listing the city's Romanian name, Sighişoara.

The boys ' father, Vlad Dracul, with the support of the Ottomans, returned to Wallachia and took back his throne from Basarab II .< ref >

Vlad II ( c. 1393 – December 1447 ), known as Vlad Dracul (), was a voivode () of Wallachia.

Vlad II received the surname Dracul in 1431, after being inducted into the Order of the Dragon, founded in 1408 by the King Sigismund of Hungary ( the later Holy Roman Emperor ), as part of a design to gain political favor from the Catholic Church and to aid in protecting Wallachia against the Ottoman Empire.

Vlad II Dracul was a member of the House of Drăculeşti lineage, and son of Mircea cel Bătrân, and was known to have murdered members of the rival princely House of Dăneşti, a not-so-distant relation to his own father's House of Basarab, and gained power in Wallachia, upon returning from exile in Transylvania in 1436.

In 1436, following Alexandru I Aldea's death from illness, Vlad Dracul ascended to the throne.

In addition to its unique architecture, the castle is famous because of persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad III Dracula.

In the English-speaking world, Vlad is best known for the exceedingly cruel punishments he imposed during his reign and for serving as the primary inspiration for the vampire main character in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.

He is best known for his novels about the assassin Vlad Taltos.

The Vlad Taltos series is set on what is apparently another planet, in an Empire mostly inhabited and ruled by the Dragaerans, who are humanoid but have such differences as greatly extended lifespans and heights averaging about 7 feet.

Vlad Taltos is one of the human minority ( known by Dragaerans as " Easterners "), which exists as a lower class in the Empire.

Vlad also practices the human art of witchcraft ; " táltos " is Hungarian for a kind of supernatural person in folklore.

Brust has written thirteen novels in the series, which is proposed to run to nineteen novels — one named for each of the Great Houses, one named for Vlad himself, and a final novel which Brust has said will be titled The Final Contract.

The first section reads like the first three novels in the series, with a first-person narration by Vlad but including Khaavren ’ s son, Piro ; the second section has a different viewpoint character in each of its chapters ; and the third section is narrated by Paarfi in the style of the earlier Khaavren Romances, with Khaavren as the viewpoint character and interacting with Vlad.

An even earlier example of a puppet state ( as well as a vassal state ) is Wallachia, which was partially de facto ruled by the Ottoman Empire from 1462 when Radu the Handsome was placed on the throne after his older brother Vlad III was banished from Wallachia and interned by Hungary.

The character of Count Dracula is thought by some to be based upon, Vlad Dracula III ' ( Vlad the Impaler ).

Sebastian is revealed to be Radu Cel Frumos, the brother of Vlad the Impaler, Dracula.

Later writings about the case have led to legendary accounts of the Countess bathing in the blood of virgins to retain her youth and subsequently also to comparisons with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia, on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based, and to modern nicknames of the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.

* Vlad — the black-clad, pale-skinned leader of the Merovingian's vampires ; he is killed by Niobe, who stabs him through the heart with a wooden stake.

During the 15th century, Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, is credited as the first notable figure to prefer this method of execution during the late medieval period, and became so notorious for its liberal employment that among his several nicknames he was known as Vlad the Impaler.

In the show Danny Phantom Danny is often seen calling Vlad Masters / Plasmius a " Fruit Loop ".
