Eschatology is an ancient branch of study in Christian theology, presumably starting with the Olivet discourse, The Sheep and the Goats, and other discourses of end times by Jesus, with the doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ first touched on by Paul of Tarsus and Ignatius of Antioch ( c. 35 – 107 AD ), then given more consideration by the Christian apologist, Justin Martyr ( c. 100 – 165 ).

Theodore ( 602 – 19 September 690 ; sometimes known as Theodore of Tarsus or Theodore of Canterbury ) was the eighth Archbishop of Canterbury, best known for his reform of the English Church and establishment of a school in Canterbury.

On 7 April 1465 – at Frederick Irontooth's request – Pope Paul II attributed to St Erasmus Chapel a canon-law College named Stift zu Ehren Unserer Lieben Frauen, des heiligen Kreuzes, St. Petri und Pauli, St. Erasmi und St. Nicolai dedicated to Mary ( am ) of Nazareth, the Holy Cross, Simon Peter, Paul of Tarsus, Erasmus of Formiae, and Nicholas of Myra.

This is the reason why Paul of Tarsus gave his first sermon to the Gentiles ( Acts 13: 13 – 52 ), and visited the city once on each of his missionary journeys, helping to make Antioch a center of early Christianity in Anatolia.

Paul of Tarsus, who was said to be directly responsible for one man's circumcision in Acts 16: 1 – 3 and who appeared to praise Jewish circumcision in Romans 3: 2, said that circumcision didn't matter in 1 Corinthians 7: 19 and then increasingly turned against the practice, accusing those who promoted circumcision of wanting to make a good showing in the flesh and boasting or glorying in the flesh in Galatians 6: 11 – 13.

Preparing for a journey to Tarsus, he called on the Bishop of Tarsus, Diodore, who was attending the First Council of Constantinople ( one of the ecumenical councils ), to ask if he could take letters for him ; his appearance and manners struck Diodorus so forcibly that he at once determined that he should be advanced as a candidate for Bishop ; making an excuse of attending to some other business, he took Nectarius to see the bishop of Antioch, who asked Nectarius to put off his journey a short time.
