The Group consists of four squadrons – the 822nd Base Defense Squadron, which activated in September 2000, 823 BDS, which activated in January 2001, the 824th which activated in November and the 820th Combat Operations Squadron, activated in March 2009.

In 1997, the Air Force activated the 820th Base Defense Group, a Force Protection unit based at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.

A KC-97G from the 380th ARS with a crew of eight exploded and crashed into Lake Champlain when 2 of the 4 engines failed 3 minutes after take-off from Plattsburgh AFB at 9: 28 p. m. During February 1959, the Wing gained both the 820th Air Base Group and the 4020th USAF Hospital.

In addition, the 820th Security Forces Group was assigned to the 23d Wing but would eventually be reassigned to the 93d Air Ground Operations Wing, also located at Moody AFB.

In March 1997, the 82nd CSPW was reactivated and redesignated the 820th Security Forces Group.

On 15 September 1964, the 380th Bombardment Wing was redesignated the 380th Strategic Aerospace Wing ( Heavy ) and was composed of three B-47 squadrons ( 528th, 529th and 530th ), the 380th Air Refueling Squadron, the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron, the 380th Combat Support Group and the 820th Medical Group.

It is home to the 820th RED HORSE Squadron, 896th Munitions Squadron and the largest aboveground weapons storage complex in the United States.

There are few other Security Forces and force protection units in the Air Force with the extensive amount of training, diverse deployment history and multi-service validation as the 820th BDG.

Later that year, on 7 August, another unit was attached to the Wing from the 820th AD, the 26th Air Refueling Squadron.

The first B-47E arrived on 21 March 1956 piloted by Brigadier General Kenneth O. Sanborn, first commander of the 820th Air Division, also headquartered at Plattsburgh AFB, but temporarily assigned to Pinecastle.

Both of these units had previously been assigned to the 820th Air Division, located at Plattsburgh AFB.

The most impressive feat during the season occurred on October 12, 1992, when Art Monk became the NFL's all-time leading pass receiver against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football by catching his 820th career reception.

The heraldry of the 820th SFG then replaced the individual MAJCOM emblems as beret insignia.

* Defense Base Act ( DBA ) insurance provides coverage for civilian workers hired by the government to perform contracts outside the US and Canada.

From August 1998 to February 2000, General Myers was Commander in Chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U. S. Space Command ; Commander of the Air Force Space Command ; and Department of Defense manager of the space transportation system contingency support at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Had the planned STS-62-A mission from Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1986 for the United States Department of Defense gone ahead, Discovery would have flown it.

While the majority of the missile launches came from United States Department of Defense footage of ICBM missile tests ( mainly Minuteman IIIs from Vandenberg Air Force Base adjacent to Lompoc, California ), all of the stock footage of missile launches were acquired from declassified DoD film libraries.

In July 2009, the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph Air Force Base confirmed that DISA will host the Air Force instantiation of the RightNow Technologies ' Commercial off-the-shelf personnel customer service and self-service applications at its Defense Enterprise Computing Centers ( DECC ).

On the other side of the city was Kreuzberg Kasern, home to various units of the United States Army ; however, only one combat unit, Alpha battery 2nd Battalion, 60th Air Defense Artillery, was headquartered on the Ramstein Air Base.

Some of these programs include Ecosystem Restoration, Formerly Used Defense Sites, Environmental Stewardship, EPA Superfund, Abandoned Mine Lands, Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Base Realignment and Closure, 2005, and Regulatory.

The Defense Intelligence Analysis Center on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling

DIA is headquartered at the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center ( DIAC ) on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D. C., with major operational activities at the Pentagon, at each Unified Combatant Command, United States Defense Attache Offices worldwide, the National Center for Medical Intelligence ( NCMI ) in Fort Detrick, Maryland, and the Missile and Space Intelligence Center ( MSIC ) in Huntsville, Alabama and is in the process of building the new Defense Intelligence Support Center ( DISC ) in Reston, Virginia.

Many of these units are moving due to decisions by the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission.

From 1951 on, Beale trained Aviation Engineers and ran an Air Base Defense School.

Great Falls was reassigned to the Central Air Defense Force at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in 1953.

In 2005, the United States Department of Defense announced that Fort Dix would be affected by a Base Realignment and Closure.

The preliminary 2005 Base Realignment and Closure ( BRAC ) list was released by the United States Department of Defense on May 13, 2005.

1988 marked the beginning of Cannon ’ s expansion as a result of decisions made by the Secretary of Defense ’ s Commission on Base Realignment and Closures ( BRAC ).

After completing multi-engine flight training in November 1946, Allen was assigned to Strategic Air Command's 7th Bombardment Group at Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, where he flew B-29 Superfortress bombers, and then the new and very long-range Convair B-36 bomber.

Two other major tenants, the 563rd Rescue Group ( structured under the 23d Wing, Moody Air Force Base ) and 943rd Rescue Group, ( structured under the 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick Air Force Base ), are tasked to provide combat search and rescue support worldwide.

The squadron produces forecasts for the Western United States and is part of the 1st Weather Group ( 1 WXG ) headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

The first assigned U. S. Army Air Corps units were the 1st Bomb Wing, 41st Bomb Group, and 31st Air Base Group, activating on 30 April 1941.

The DC-130s and U-2s remained at the Davis-Monthan until 1976, when the 100 SRW was inactivated, its DC-130s transferred to Tactical Air Command's 432d Tactical Drone Group, and its U-2s transferred to SAC's 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing ( 9 SRW ) at Beale Air Force Base, California, where U-2 Dragon Lady operations were consolidated with SR-71 Blackbird operations.

: The 30th Mission Support Group supports the third largest Air Force Base in the United States.

: The 30th Medical Group provides medical, dental, bio-environmental and public health services for people assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base, their families and retirees.

To operate Cooke AFB, the 392d Air Base Group was activated, replacing the 6591st Support Squadron on April 15, 1957.

The 53d Weapons Evaluation Group ( 53 WEG ), is an Air Combat Command tenant organization that reports to the 53d Wing ( 53 WG ) at nearby Eglin Air Force Base.

As part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure round, Crestview will experience further population growth as the U. S. Army's 7th Special Forces Group relocates from Fort Bragg, North Carolina to a newly built cantonment facility on the northern end of the Eglin Air Force Base reservation, approximately six miles south of the city.
