In 1950 Eric Gairy founded the Grenada United Labour Party, initially as a trades union, which led the 1951 general strike for better working conditions, this sparked great unrest-so many buildings were set ablaze that the disturbances became known as the ' red sky ' days-and the British authorities had to call in military reinforcements to help regain control of the situation.

Williamson extended his influence on the young British blues rockers in the 1960s, recording with Eric Clapton and The Yardbirds and appearing on live British television.

In 1935, Sir Eric Phipps, the British Ambassador to Germany, complained to London about Ribbentrop's British associates in the Anglo-German Fellowship, that they created " false German hopes as in regards to British friendship and caused a reaction against it in England, where public opinion is very naturally hostile to the Nazi regime and its methods ".

Existing " British Invasion " acts now joined the psychedelic revolution, including Eric Burdon ( previously of The Animals ), and The Small Faces and The Who whose The Who Sell Out ( 1967 ) included psychedelic influenced tracks " I Can See for Miles " and " Armenia City in the Sky ".

He went on to win gold medals in his other three events: the 10, 000 m, sprinting past Guillemot on the final curve and improving his personal best by over a minute, the cross country race, beating Sweden's Eric Backman, and the cross country team event where he helped Heikki Liimatainen and Teodor Koskenniemi defeat the British and Swedish teams.

Although this " purist " interest in the blues would have an impact on major British rock musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green and Jimmy Page, other artists adopted an interest in a wider range of rhythm and blues styles.
