The killing of Jewish children appeared with increasing frequency in Einsatzgruppen reports after August 15, 1941.

During 1941 he dispatched Eichmann on tours of inspection of the occupied Soviet Union, and received detailed reports on the work of the Einsatzgruppen, who killed an estimated 1. 4 million Jews in 12 months.

The complete status reports of the Einsatzgruppen death squads were found in the archives of the Gestapo when it was searched by the U. S. Army, and the accuracy attested to by the former Einsatzgruppen members who testified during war crime trials and at other times.

Many of the longer prison sentences were reduced substantially by decree of high commissioner John J. McCloy in 1951, and 10 outstanding death sentences from the Einsatzgruppen Trial were converted to prison terms.

The Gestapo also maintained offices at all Nazi concentration camps, held an office on the staff of the SS and Police Leaders, and supplied personnel as needed to formations such as the Einsatzgruppen.

One of the more notorious functions of the SS and Police Leaders was to serve as the Commanding SS General for any Einsatzgruppen ( mostly death squads ) that were activated in the SS and Police Leader ’ s area.
