Bowie's second album, Space Oddity, followed in November ; originally issued in the UK as David Bowie, it caused some confusion with its predecessor of the same name, and the early US release was instead titled Man of Words / Man of Music.

In the 1960s the success of the films West Side Story, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, and The Sound of Music suggested that the traditional musical was in good health.

" Rock Island " from Meridith Wilson's " The Music Man " is wholly spoken by an ensemble of travelling salesmen, as are most of the numbers for British actor Rex Harrison in the 1964 Lerner and Loewe musical My Fair Lady.

In July 1991, Screamin ' Jay Hawkins released the album Black Music for White People, which features covers of two Waits compositions: " Heartattack & Vine " ( which later that year was used in a European Levi's advertisement without Waits ' permission, resulting in a lawsuit ) and " Ice Cream Man ".

The production was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical in 1957, but the award for Best Musical went to Meredith Willson's The Music Man ; it won a Tony Award for Robbins ' choreography.

The band also won their first MTV Video Music Awards in the categories of Best Group Video for " Legs ," and Best Direction for " Sharp Dressed Man ".
