Between 1857 and 1859 he studied at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt ( near Vienna ).

The Theresian Military Academy was founded on 14 December 1751 by Maria Theresa of Austria.

Böhm-Ermolli was trained at the cadet academy in St. Pölten and the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt and entered the service on 1 September 1875 as a lieutenant in the dragoons.

In 1752, the Theresian Military Academy took up its operations, which have continued to this day with only a few interruptions ( Erwin Rommel was appointed commandant after the Austrian Anschluss in 1938 ).
