There is, of course, nothing new about dystopias, for they belong to a literary tradition which, including also the closely related satiric utopias, stretches from at least as far back as the eighteenth century and Swift's Gulliver's Travels to the twentieth century and Zamiatin's We, Capek's War With The Newts, Huxley's Brave New World, E. M. Forster's `` The Machine Stops '', C. S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength, and Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, and which in science fiction is represented before the present deluge as early as Wells's trilogy, The Time Machine, `` A Story Of The Days To Come '', and When The Sleeper Wakes, and as recently as Jack Williamson's `` With Folded Hands '' ( 1947 ), the classic story of men replaced by their own robots.

This covered, wooden bridge is so closely identified with the first action in the early morning of June 3, 1861, and with subsequent troop movements of both armies in the Philippi area that it has become a part and parcel of the war story.

The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity is housed in an 11-story structure originally built for The Christian Science Publishing Society constructed between 1932 and 1934, and the present plaza was constructed in the late 1960s and early 1970s to include a 28 story administration building, a colonnade, and a reflecting pool with fountain, designed by Araldo Cossutta of I. Various conventions of the detective genre were standardized during the Golden Age, and in 1929 some of them were codified by writer Ronald Knox in his ' Decalogue ' of rules for detective fiction, among them to avoid supernatural elements, all of which were meant to guarantee that, in Knox's words, a detective story " must have as its main interest the unravelling of a mystery ; a mystery whose elements are clearly presented to the reader at an early stage in the proceedings, and whose nature is such as to arouse curiosity, a curiosity which is gratified at the end.

Another widely distributed early story mentioning the Darwin Awards is the JATO Rocket Car, which describes a man who strapped a JATO ( Jet-Assisted Take-Off ) unit to his Chevrolet Impala in the Arizona desert and who died gloriously on the side of a cliff as his car achieved speeds of 250 to 300 miles per hour.

This story originates from two written sources from the early 16th century.

1 Esdras, probably from the late 2nd / early 1st centuries BCE, preserves a Greek text of Ezra and a part of Nehemiah distinctly different from that of Ezra-Nehemiah-in particular it eliminates Nehemiah from the story and gives some of his deeds to Ezra, as well as telling events in a different order.

Its story of a subterranean race waiting to reclaim the surface of the Earth is an early science fiction theme.

An early example is in Maurice Tourneur's The Pride of the Clan ( 1917 ), in which there is a series of shots of waves beating on a rocky shore which are shown when the locale of the story, which is about the harsh lives of fisher folk, is being introduced.

The village of Oakley, burnt to the ground by the dragon early in the story, may also be named after Oakley, Buckinghamshire, near to Thame.

The general view of historians and critics is that the story of the Golem of Prague was a German literary invention of the early 19th century.

The other early authors and works included Christian Heinrich Spiess, with his works Das Petermännchen ( 1793 ), Der alte Überall and Nirgends ( 1792 ), Die Löwenritter ( 1794 ), and Hans Heiling, vierter und letzter Regent der Erd-Luft-Feuer-und Wasser-Geister ( 1798 ), Heinrich von Kleist's short story Das Bettelweib von Locarno ( 1797 ) and Ludwig Tieck's Der blonde Eckbert ( 1797 ), Der Runenberg ( 1804 ).

An early example of the Golden Rule that reflects the Ancient Egyptian concept of Maat appears in the story of The Eloquent Peasant, which dates to the Middle Kingdom ( c. 2040 – 1650 BCE ): " Now this is the command: Do to the doer to cause that he do thus to you.

McDevitt's first published story was " The Emerson Effect " in The Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981.

The movie was adapted by Anita Loos from a story by Horace B. Carpenter and was directed by John Emerson.

Pallas is the story of Emerson Ngu, a boy who lives in a dystopian socialist commune in a crater on the asteroid Pallas.

The relationship between Amelia and Emerson may best be described as ' Brontean '; the story of the handsome but rough-mannered hero tamed by the right woman plays out according to classic Romantic formula.

According to Asimov's autobiography, Campbell asked Asimov to write the story after discussing with him a quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

** New Musical Express, a British music magazine, publishes a story about two 13-year-old schoolgirls, Sue and Mary, releasing a disc on Decca and adds " A Liverpool group, The Beatles, have recorded ' Love Me Do ' for Parlophone Records, set for October 5 release.

In 1977, actor Leonard Nimoy recorded a dramatic reading of the story as the title track of an album for Caedmon Records.

In 1943, Laughton recorded a reading of the Nativity story from St. Luke's Gospel, and this was released in 1995 on CD on a Nimbus Records collection entitled Prima Voce: The Spirit of Christmas Past.

Dr. Seuss's story had originally appeared on a children's record in 1950, scored by Gail Kubik, issued by Capitol Records, and read by radio personality Harold Peary.

* Let's " Hear " it For Robin Hood ( 1974 )- Disneyland Records release, Prima tells the story of Robin Hood through spoken word and song.

" Burke picks up the story: " He called these guys ( from Rounder Records ) and they came over ( to the restaurant ).

The rest of the album contained original songs created by him or members of his family, including " Season's Greetings ", " You're All I Want And Need For Christmas ", " It's Christmas All Over The World ", " Christmas Eve's Blues ", " Something Good This Christmas ", and " The Bethlehem Story ", a rewrite of Burke's own version of The Little Town of Bethlehem story, or The Night Before Christmas .” The final track on the album is " The Christmas Prayer ", a ' thank you ' sermon from Burke, which had been written by Burke in 1980, and released by Savoy Records in 1982 as the flip side to his cover of " Silent Night.

The Shirelles ' story was shown in Baby It's You !, a musical revue written by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, which follows the story of Greenberg and Scepter Records.

However, due to " obvious gaps " in the Official Records, the story cannot be verified.

Eventually the song came to the attention of record producer Archie Bleyer of Cadence Records, who hated it, particularly after Wray poked holes in his amplifier's speakers to make the recording sound more like the live version ( see " Rocket 88 " for Ike Turner's similar story ).

His story is told in the chapter entitled Biographies of the Assassins ( 刺客列傳 ) in Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian.

In volume 82 of Song's Li Fang ( 李昉 Lǐ Fǎng )' s Extensive Records of Taiping (《 太平廣記 》), an earlier version of the story, Lü Dongbin was replaced by Student Lu ( 盧生 Lú Shēng ), and Zhongli Quan by Elder Lü ( 呂翁 Lǚ Wēng ).

Michael Winterbottom's 2002 film 24 Hour Party People follows the story of Tony Wilson and Factory Records, including the Madchester period and the Happy Mondays ' success.

In a similar story recorded in Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian ( or Shiji, compiled between 109 and 91 BC ), Jizi was enfeoffed by King Wu but did not become his subject.

Disneyland Records used the same title in 1979 for a new album of sound effects and story situations.

* Leo the Lion Records released a reading of the story performed by Richard Kiley on a recording (# GD01603 ) including a dramatization of " The Magic Fishbone " by Charles Dickens featuring Julie Harris and Ian Martin and a reading of Rudyard Kipling's story " The Potted Princess " performed by Ms. Harris.

For Kid Stuff Records, John Braden recorded a 7-in 33 RPM record telling the story of Super Breakout.

However, this story was rejected by Pei Songzhi, annotator of the Records of Three Kingdoms, taking into account of various sources.
