Early examples of simple preclassical sonata forms include Pergolesi's Trio Sonata No. 3 in G Major.
This example is also unusual in being written in orthodox sonata form rather than the usual ternary form for such a movement, and thus it lacks a Trio section.

According to Sir Donald Francis Tovey this is one of only a handful of Beethoven's works in sonata form that ends in tragedy ( the others being the C minor Trio, Piano Sonata Op.
