Trip-a-Tron is a light synthesizer written by Jeff Minter and published through his Llamasoft label circa 1988.

Various manufacturers started producing PCI busboards for the A1200 and A4000, allowing standard Amiga computers to use PCI cards such as Voodoo graphic cards, Sound Blaster sound cards, 10 / 100 Ethernet cards, and TV tuner cards.

The 1990s, though, were a turbulent time for graphics development, as the computer industry was collapsing, with long-time computer makers such as Tandy / Radio Shack, Atari, and Commodore / Amiga disappearing, and the PC and Macintosh markets were fighting for dominance.

MINIX 1. 5, released in 1991, included support for MicroChannel IBM PS / 2 systems and was also ported to the Motorola 68000 and SPARC architectures, supporting the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, Apple Macintosh and Sun SPARCstation computer platforms.

The 68000 became the dominant CPU for Unix based workstations including Sun workstations and Apollo / Domain workstations, found its way into heralded computers such as the Apple Lisa and Macintosh, Amiga, Atari ST, and was used in the first generation of desktop laser printers including the original Apple Inc. LaserWriter and the HP LaserJet.

The 68030 was used in many models of the Apple Macintosh II and Commodore Amiga series of personal computers, NeXT Cube, Sun Microsystems Sun 3 / 80 desktop workstation ( a member of the " sun3x " architecture, where the earlier " sun3 " used a 68020 ), later Alpha Microsystems multiuser systems, and some descendants of the Atari ST line such as the Atari TT and the Atari Falcon.

The 68040 was also used in other personal computers, such as the Amiga 4000 and Amiga 4000T, as well as a number of workstations, Alpha Microsystems servers, the HP 9000 / 400 series, and later versions of the NeXT computer.

In addition, IBM once made a deal with Commodore to license Amiga technology for OS / 2 2. 0 and above in exchange for the REXX scripting language.

Development of the Amiga began in 1982 with Jay Miner, developer of the Atari 800 chip set, as the principal hardware designer of Amiga Corporation.

Ports of the game were released for the Commodore 64, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Amiga, Atari ST, MSX, Amstrad CPC, Sharp X68000, PC ( MS-DOS, 1989 and 1996 ), Apple II, FM Towns Marty, Sega Master System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo Entertainment System, Famicom Disk System, Sega Game Gear, mobile phone ( Sprint PCS ), Texas Instruments TI-8x series of calculators and UltraCade's Taito Arcade Classics.

It has undergone numerous revisions for various platforms ( including Windows, Macintosh, Amiga, Atari ST, PlayStation, N-Gage and Super Nintendo ) and now exists in several versions.

Jay Miner and company had approached former employer Atari, and the " Warner owned " Atari had paid Amiga to continue development work.

After one year Atari would have the right to add a keyboard and market the complete Amiga computer.

The Atari Museum has acquired the Atari-Amiga contract and Atari engineering logs revealing that the Atari Amiga was originally designated as the 1850XLD.

At around the same time that Tramiel was in negotiations with Atari, Amiga entered into discussions with Commodore.

The discussions ultimately led to Commodore's intentions to purchase Amiga outright, which would ( from Commodore's viewpoint ) cancel any outstanding contracts-including Atari Inc .' s.

While this rivalry was in many ways a holdover from the days when the Commodore 64 had first challenged the Atari 800 ( among others ) in a series of scathing television commercials, the events leading to the launch of the ST and Amiga only served to further alienate fans of each computer, who fought vitriolic holy wars on the question of which platform was superior.

Garfield: Big Fat Hairy Deal is a 1987 video game for the Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and the Amiga based on the comic strip.

Flare's prototype system was Z80 based but featured four custom chips to give it the power to compete with peers such as the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST.

In the years immediately after the 1983 ratification of the MIDI specification, MIDI features were adapted to several early computer platforms, including Apple II Plus, IIe and Macintosh, Commodore 64 and Amiga, Atari ST, Acorn Archimedes, and PC-DOS.

By the mid-1980s, falling production cost made the 68000 viable for use in personal and home computers, starting with the Apple Lisa and Macintosh, and followed by the Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, and Sharp X68000.

Throughout the life of the ST and Amiga platforms, a ferocious Atari-Commodore rivalry raged.

This was reflected in sales numbers for the two platforms until the release of the Amiga 500 in 1987 which led the Amiga sales to exceed the ST by about 1. 5 to 1, despite reaching the market later.

In spite of these specifications and bearing in mind their target gaming market, Flare aimed to retail their machine for around £ 200, half of what the Amiga and ST were selling for.

It saw use in some late-model Amiga machines and Amiga accelerator cards as well as some Atari ST clones and a Falcon accelerator board ( CT060 ), and very late models of the Alpha Microsystems multiuser computers before their migration to x86, but Apple Inc. and the Unix world had moved onto various RISC platforms by the time the ' 060 was available.

Because of its minimal overhead and low cost, the shareware model is often the only one practical for distributing non-free software for abandoned or orphaned platforms such as the Atari ST and Amiga.

GDW licensee Paragon produced two video games based on the Traveller universe: MegaTraveller 1: The Zhodani Conspiracy ( 1990 ) for Amiga, Atari ST and MS-DOS operating environments, and MegaTraveller 2: Quest for the Ancients ( 1991 ) for Amiga and MS-DOS.

The company's first projects consisted of contract work for companies like Epyx and Strategic Simulations, Inc. ( SSI ), porting 8-bit titles to 16-bit systems like Commodore Amiga and Atari ST.

However, by this point, the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST had taken hold of the market, leaving MGT in eventual receivership.

Krisalis Software released an adaptation of Rogue Trooper for the Amiga and Atari ST in 1991, and the merchandising that accompanied the 1995 Judge Dredd film included tie-in games for the IBM PC ( MS-DOS ), Game Boy, Game Gear, PlayStation, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
