The most significant of the architectural works were: Vincenzo Scamozzi's L ’ Idea dell ’ Architettura Universale ; Sebastiano Serlio's Sette Libri d ' Architettura ; Domenico Fontana's Della transportatione dell ' obelisco Vaticano e delle fabriche di Sisto V ; Colen Campbell's Vitruvius Britannicus ; Giacomo Leoni's The Architecture of A. Palladio, in Four Books ; William Kent's The Designs of Inigo Jones and Robert Wood's The ruins of Palmyra.

Following the examples of Vitruvius and the five books of the Regole generali d ' architettura by Sebastiano Serlio, published from 1537 onwards, Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola produced an architecture rule book that was more practical than the previous two books, which were more philosophical in nature, his Cinque ordini di erchitettura ( The Five Orders of Architecture ) from 1562 ; the book is considered " one of the most successful architectural textbooks ever written ", despite having no text apart from the notes and the introduction.

* Cesare Cesariano ( 1521 ) who edited the important 1521 edition of De Archtectura of Vitruvius ( Leonardo da Vinci is supposed to have provided the illustrations for this edition ).

Le Corbusier developed the Modulor in the long tradition of Vitruvius, Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, the work of Leone Battista Alberti, and other attempts to discover mathematical proportions in the human body and then to use that knowledge to improve both the appearance and function of architecture.

Vitruvius noted that a " well made man " has an arm span equal to his or her height, as exemplified in Leonardo da Vinci's drawing, the " Vitruvian Man ".

Vitruvius also studied human proportions ( Book 3 ) and his canones were later encoded in a very famous drawing by Leonardo da Vinci ( Homo Vitruvianus, " Vitruvian Man ").

Leonardo da Vinci's best known drawing, the Vitruvian man, is based on the concepts of proportion developed by Vitruvius.

Bartolomeo Platina and Filippo Buonaccorsi were among the most distinguished members of the circle, which also included Giovanni Sulpizio da Veroli, the editor of the first printed De architectura of Vitruvius and organizer of the first production of a Senecan tragedy mounted since Antiquity.

Also, some architectural renderings and models of unbuilt projects, such as by Vitruvius, Leonardo da Vinci, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Frank Gehry, are other examples.

* Daniele Barbaro, translator of Vitruvius

Scamozzi depended for sections of his treatment of Vitruvius on Daniele Barbaro's commentary, published in 1556 with illustrations by Palladio ; he also discussed issues of building practice.

Before this landmark publication, architectural drawings by Palladio had appeared in print as illustrations to Daniele Barbaro's " Commentary " on Vitruvius.

Palladio had illustrated Daniele Barbaro's Italian translation of Vitruvius ' De architectura ; the prints for this edition include floorplans for Roman theatres and an elevation for the scaenae frons of Vicenza's ruined Roman theatre, the Teatro Berga.

the modular proportion of the column was 1: 7 in Vitruvius, and in Palladio's illustration for Daniele Barbaro's commentary on Vitruvius ), in Vignola's Cinque ordini d ' architettura ( 1562 ), and in Palladio's Quattro libri ( 1570 ).

Daniele Barbaro, in his 1567 translation of Vitruvius, classically defined perfection as " that which lacks nothing and to which nothing can be added.

During his lifetime he published two works: The Elements of Architecture ( 1624 ), which is a free translation of de Architectura by Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, executed during his time in Venice ; and a Latin prose address to the king on his return from Scotland ( 1633 ).

The first a pastoral opera, L ' amore innocente ( Innocent Love ) was a light hearted comedy set in the Austrian mountains, and the second was based on an episode from Cervantes Don Quixote – Don Chisciotte alle nozze di Gamace ( Don Quixote at the Marriage of Camacho ).

His early operas ( Gli equivoci nel sembiante 1679 ; L ’ honestà negli amori 1680, containing the famous aria " Già il sole dal Gange "; Il Pompeo 1683, containing the well-known airs " O cessate di piagarmi " and " Toglietemi la vita ancor ," and others down to about 1685 ) retain the older cadences in their recitatives, and a considerable variety of neatly constructed forms in their charming little arias, accompanied sometimes by the string quartet, treated with careful elaboration, sometimes with the continuo alone.

Many poems and plays, and two operas ( Les Abencérages, by Luigi Cherubini, and L ' esule di Granata, by Giacomo Meyerbeer ) mention the legend, but the whole story is doubtful, because the best historians do not mention it.

He had come to realize that the Italian stage needed reforming ; adopting Molière as his model, he went to work in earnest and in 1738 produced his first real comedy, L ' uomo di mondo (" The Man of the World ").

Since the Renaissance the myth of Diana has often been represented in the visual and dramatic arts, including the opera L ' arbore di Diana.

Representative films include: Black Sunday, Castle of Blood, Twitch of the Death Nerve, L ' uccello dalle piume di cristallo, Profondo rosso and Suspiria.

Among the major artistic films of this era were La città delle donne, E la nave va, Ginger and Fred by Fellini, L ' albero degli zoccoli by Ermanno Olmi ( winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival ), La notte di San Lorenzo by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Antonioni's Identificazione di una donna, and Bianca and La messa è finita by Nanni Moretti.

Often, the criteria had moral bases, such as in the case of Pierre de La Primaudaye's L ' Académie française and Guillaume Telin's Bref sommaire des sept vertus & c .. Encyclopaedists encountered several problems with this approach, including how to decide what to omit as unnecessary, how to structure knowledge that resisted structure ( often simply as a consequence of the sheer amount of material that deserved inclusion ), and how to cope with the influx of newly discovered knowledge and the effects that it had on prior structures.
