Notable among Orthodox Jewish philosophers are Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler, Joseph B. Soloveitchik, and Yitzchok Hutner.

Yitzchok ( Isaac ) Hutner ( 1906 – 1980 ) was an American Orthodox rabbi and rosh yeshiva.

Yitzchok Hutner was born in Warsaw, Poland, to a family with both Ger Hasidic and non-Hasidic Lithuanian Jewish roots.

Finally, when Hutner composed and published his work Pachad Yitzchok there is no overt reference to any of Kook's own extensive works ( although Kook's ideas and motifs permeate Hutner's work according to those familiar with both rabbis ' writings ).

During his stay in Berlin, R. Schneerson was assigned specific communal tasks by his father-in-law, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn, who also requested that he write scholarly annotations to the responsa of Tzemach Tzedek.

It was one of the last boats to cross the Atlantic before the U-boat blockade began, and joined his father-in-law, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn, in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, New York.

Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn died in 1950.

He was politically active in resisting the Haskalah in Russia, and to this end forged an alliance with Rabbi Yitzchok of Volozhin, a major leader of the misnagdim.

His son was Rabbi Avraham Schneerson of Kischinev, whose daughter, Nechama Dina Schneersohn, married Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn, the sixth Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch.

In 1940, under the leadership of the previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn, the Chabad-Lubavitch movement moved its headquarters to Brooklyn, New York in the United States.

Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn was born in Lyubavichi, Russia, the only son of Rabbi Sholom Dovber Schneersohn ( the Rebbe Rashab ), the fifth Rebbe of Chabad.

In several instances, yeshivos such as Torah Vodaas, Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon, Chaim Berlin and Ner Yisroel started allowing the boys ( or bochurim ) to pursue a secular education while remaining in the yeshiva.

Prominent recent authorities who have written commentaries on the work include Rabbis Meir Simcha of Dvinsk ( Ohr Somayach ), Chaim Soloveitchik ( Chiddushei Rabbeinu Chaim ), Yitzchok Isaac Krasilschikov ( Tevunah ), Isser Zalman Meltzer ( Even HaEzel ) and, more recently, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson ( Hadran al HaRambam ), Elazar Shach ( Avi Ezri ) and Rabbi Yosef Kapach.

Notable senior faculty include Rabbis Pinchas Kahn, Chaim Kitevits, Yosef Fruchthandler, Shlomo Chai David Yitzchak Halioua, Avigdor Kitevits, Reuven Neirenberg, Eliyahu Yormark, Yitzchok Meir Sendrovitz, Chaim Lazer Kahn, Binyomin Fruchthandler, and Shmaryahu Yitzchok Efraim Kirzner.

Eight of his sons became rebbes in different locals: His eldest, Reb Yisroel, succeeded him in Vyzhnytsia ; Reb Chaim became rebbe in Ottynia ; Reb Moshe in Suceava ; Reb Shmuel Avrohom Abba in Horodenka ; Reb Yaakov Yitzchok Dovid in Storozhynets ; Reb Pinchos in Borsha ; Reb Feivish in Zelishtshik ; Reb Yechiel Michel succeeded his brother in Horodenka.

Rebbe Shmuel Yaakov Kohn, the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe of Jerusalem was a student of the late Rebbe Chaim Meir of Vizhnitz, as well Rebbe Moshe Yehoshua of Vizhnitz and has adopted many of the customs of Vizhnitz.

Other faculty include Rabbis Yisroel Shteinvurtzel, Yonasan Fischer, Yaakov Brazil, Ozriel Bodner, Moshe Greene, Yitzchok Elya Sussman, Yehoshua Kurland, Binyomin Cherney, Chaim Majorovic, Yaakov Pluchenick, Yaakov Tawil, Eliezer Kutner and Eliyahu Schneider.

His first wife was the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchok of Volozhin, the son of Rabbi Chaim Volozhin.

Chaim Volozhin ( also known as Chaim ben Yitzchok of Volozhin or Chaim Ickovits ; January 21, 1749 – June 14, 1821 ) was an Orthodox rabbi, Talmudist, and ethicist.

His students in Uman, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Bender and Rabbi Eliyahu Chaim Rosen, became leaders of the next generation of Breslover Hasidim after they emigrated from Uman to Jerusalem.
