He first presented Jerome Kern's " The Way You Look Tonight " in Swing Time ( 1936 ); the Gershwins ' " They Can't Take That Away From Me " in Shall We Dance ( 1937 ), " A Foggy Day " and " Nice Work if You Can Get it " in A Damsel in Distress ( 1937 ); Johnny Mercer's " One for My Baby " from The Sky's the Limit ( 1943 ) and " Something's Gotta Give " from Daddy Long Legs ( 1955 ); and Harry Warren and Arthur Freed's " This Heart of Mine " from Ziegfeld Follies ( 1946 ).

Bert Williams was the only black member of the Ziegfeld Follies when he joined them in 1910.

Much later, it was reprised in the ballet " Limehouse Blues " featuring Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer in the musical film Ziegfeld Follies ( 1946 ).

He began appearing in motion pictures in a comedy series pairing him with silent film legend Buster Keaton and continuing with The Wet Parade ( 1932 ), Broadway to Hollywood ( 1933 ), The Man Who Came to Dinner ( 1942, playing " Banjo ", a character based on Harpo Marx ), Ziegfeld Follies ( 1946 ), Billy Rose's Jumbo ( 1962, based on the 1935 musical ) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World ( 1963 ).

After this, Haney appeared in a few shows, including the touring production Ziegfeld Follies of 1956, but developed paralyzing stage fright.

DeMille's The Sign of the Cross ( 1932 ), the all-star Oscar winning Grand Hotel ( 1932 ), the Oscar-winning biopic The Great Ziegfeld ( 1936 ), the classic films Lost Horizon ( 1937 ), Gone with the Wind ( 1939 ), Fantasia ( 1940 ), For Whom the Bell Tolls ( 1943 ) and The Song of Bernadette ( 1943 ), the wartime tear-jerker Since You Went Away ( 1944 ), Samuel Goldwyn's Oscar-winning postwar epic The Best Years of Our Lives ( 1946 ), the flamboyant Western Duel in the Sun ( also 1946 ), and the biopic Joan of Arc starring Ingrid Bergman ( 1948 ), as well as some other DeMille epics, such as Samson and Delilah ( 1949 ).

She made her Broadway debut in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1927.

In 1927, when Roth was seventeen years old, she made the first of three Earl Carroll Vanities, which was soon followed by Midnight Frolics, a Florenz Ziegfeld production.

Universal retained the services of Powell however, which ultimately resulted in his appearance in the classic screwball comedy My Man Godfrey the same year as The Great Ziegfeld.

For " Top Hat, White Tie and Tails ", probably Astaire's most celebrated tap solo, the idea for the title song came from Astaire who described to Berlin a routine he had created for the 1930 Ziegfeld Broadway flop Smiles called " Say, Young Man of Manattan ," in which he gunned down a chorus of men – which included teenagers Bob Hope and Larry Adler – with his cane.

She made four films in close succession with William Powell: Libeled Lady ( 1936 ), which also starred Jean Harlow and Spencer Tracy, The Great Ziegfeld ( 1936 ), in which she played Billie Burke opposite Powell's Florenz Ziegfeld, the second " Thin Man " film, After the Thin Man with Powell and James Stewart, and the romantic comedy Double Wedding ( 1937 ).

His best-known film appearance prior to The Wizard of Oz was The Great Ziegfeld ( 1936 ), in which he portrayed himself.

They collaborated on many songs which were used in Broadway shows, including " Mr. Dooley ," sung by the title character in The Wizard of Oz, as well as the Ziegfeld Follies.

The 1936 Best Picture winner was The Great Ziegfeld, starring William Powell as the master showman and co-starring Myrna Loy ( as Ziegfeld's second wife Billie Burke ), Luise Rainer ( as Anna Held, which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress ), and Frank Morgan.

His work which was inspired by an early interest in Florenz Ziegfeld, Folies Bergère, and George Quaintance has, in turn, served as important inspiration for a slew of artists including Pierre et Gilles and David LaChapelle.

Rose was featured in the film Funny Lady, a sequel to Funny Girl, which is about Ziegfeld comedienne Fanny Brice.

Her big stage break which led to her Hollywood career was as one of the famed " Ziegfeld Girls " in the Ziegfeld Follies.

His stage spectaculars, known as the Ziegfeld Follies, began with Follies of 1907, which opened on July 7, 1907, and were produced annually until 1931.

Gallagher and Shean remain best known for their theme song " Mister Gallagher and Mister Shean ", which was a hit in the 1922 Ziegfeld Follies.

The following year the duo collaborated on the musical Mr. Wonderful, designed for Sammy Davis, Jr., after which they worked on Ziegfeld Follies of 1956, which closed out-of-town.
