In 1768, he settled in Edinburgh ; he lived from 1771 until his death in 1776 at the south-west corner of St. Andrew's Square, in Edinburgh's New Town, at what is now 21 Saint David Street.

His father, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand von Bismarck ( Schönhausen, 13 November 1771 – 22 November 1845 ), was a Junker estate owner and a former Prussian military officer ; his mother, Wilhelmine Luise Mencken ( Potsdam, 24 February 1789 – Berlin ), the well-educated daughter of a senior government official in Berlin.

Some of the scenes completed by Masaccio and Masolino were lost in a fire in 1771 ; we know about them only through Vasari's biography.

His financial troubles and coarse and truculent character, however, soon made the town too hot to hold him ; and in 1771 he was glad to accept the offer of the post of professor of theology and preacher at Gießen.

Others were Michael Sadler ( 1780 – 1835 ), a Wesleyan Methodist, who had a business importing Irish linen ; Richard Oastler ( 1789 – 1861 ), a land agent from a Wesleyan background ; Edwin Chadwick ( 1800 – 1890 ) who had been Bentham's secretary and Robert Owen ( 1771 – 1758 ).

Construction of this machine was never completed ; Babbage had conflicts with his chief engineer, Joseph Clement, and ultimately the British government withdrew its funding for the project.

Seven Republican senators – William Pitt Fessenden, Joseph S. Fowler, John B. Henderson, Lyman Trumbull, Peter G. Van Winkle and notably Senators Grimes and Ross played a decisive role ; purportedly disturbed by how the proceedings had been manipulated to give a one-sided presentation of the evidence, they voted against conviction, in defiance of their party and public opinion.

The midrashic book of Jasher argues that prior to revealing his identity, Joseph asked Benjamin to find his missing brother ( i. e. Joseph ) via astrology, using an astrolabe-like tool ; it continues by stating that Benjamin divined that the man on the throne was Joseph, so Joseph identified himself to Benjamin ( but not the other brothers ), and revealed his scheme ( as in the Torah ) to test how fraternal the other brothers were.

In these sources, Benjamin swore an oath, on the memory of Joseph, that he was innocent of theft, and, when challenged about how believable the oath would be, explained that remembering Joseph was so important to him that he had named his sons in Joseph's honour ; these sources go on to state that Benjamin's oath touched Joseph so deeply that Joseph was no longer able to pretend to be a stranger.

In the narrative, just prior to this test, when Joseph had first met all of his brothers ( but not identified himself to them ), he had held a feast for them ; the narrative heavily implies that Benjamin was Joseph's favorite brother, since he is overcome with tears when he first meets Benjamin in particular, and he gives Benjamin five times as much food as he apportions to the others.

According to this view, the story of Jacob's visit to Laban to obtain a wife originated as a metaphor for this migration, with the property and family which were gained from Laban representing the gains of the Joseph tribes by the time they returned from Egypt ; according to textual scholars, the Jahwist version of the Laban narrative only mentions the Joseph tribes, and Rachel, and does not mention the other tribal matriarchs whatsoever.

Charlotte believed that art was most convincing when based on personal experience ; in Jane Eyre she transformed this experience into a novel with universal appeal.

Campbell's speed on his final Lake Eyre run remained the highest speed achieved by a wheel-driven car until 2001 ; Bluebird CN7 is now on display at the National Motor Museum in Hampshire, England, her potential only partly realised.

One of the National's associate directors, Richard Eyre became artistic director in 1988 ; his experience included running the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and the Nottingham Playhouse.

For example, Stephen King's The Dark Half has epigraphs taken from the fictitious novels written by the protagonist ; Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair has quotations from supposedly future works about the action of the story ; John Green's The Fault in Our Stars has a quotation from a fictitious novel, An Imperial Affliction, which features prominently as a part of the story.

At the time of her death, Carter had started work on a sequel to Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre based on the later life of Jane's stepdaughter, Adèle Varens ; only a synopsis survives.
