Charles Martin " Chuck " Jones ( September 21, 1912 – February 22, 2002 ) was an American animator, cartoon artist, screenwriter, producer, and director of animated films, most memorably of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts for the Warner Bros. Cartoons studio.

He later started his own studio, Chuck Jones Productions, which created several one-shot specials, and periodically worked on Looney Tunes related works.

Chuck Jones joined Leon Schlesinger Productions, the independent studio that produced Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies for Warner Bros., in 1933 as an assistant animator.

Jones ' final Looney Tunes cartoon was From Hare to Eternity in 1996, which starred Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam, with Greg Burson voicing Bugs.

Cartoon Network aired a 20-second segment with black dots tracing Jones ' portrait with the words " We'll miss you-Cartoon Network " fading in on the right-hand side, which aired during a four-hour installment of The Looney Tunes Show that featured nothing but Chuck Jones ' most memorable cartoon shorts.

After his death, the Looney Tunes cartoon Daffy Duck for President, based on the book that Jones had written and using Jones ' style for the characters, originally scheduled to be released in 2000, was released in 2004 as part of disc 3 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 2 DVD set.

Teaming with director Frank Tashlin, whose background as a Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon director suited Lewis's brand of humor, he starred in five more films, and even appeared uncredited as Itchy McRabbitt in Li ' l Abner ( 1959 ).

His last two appearances done by the classic Warner Brothers directors, writers, and voice actors were in Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales appearing in The Fright Before Christmas segment and at the very end eating the sleigh full of presents.

He appeared briefly in " The Looney Beginning " and had a more extended cameo in " It's a Wonderful Tiny Toon Adventures Christmas Special ".

He hosted Mooney Tunes for RTÉ over Christmas 2011, an obvious pun on the similarity between the presenter's name and the word " Looney " as used in Looney Tunes, the Warner Bros. animated cartoon series.

Looney also introduced the argument that the reference to the " ever-living poet " in the 1609 dedication to Shakespeare's sonnets implied that the author was dead at the time of publication.

This can be seen directly at least in two references to the Acme Corporation from Looney Tunes: in the world-map for episode two, which is the blueprints of the Vorticon Mothership, there is a small sign in the Standard Galactic Alphabet that says " Blueprint — Acme ".

Bugs Bunny made a cameo appearance in 1942 in the Avery / Clampett cartoon Crazy Cruise and also at the end of the Frank Tashlin 1943 cartoon Porky Pig's Feat which marked Bugs ' only appearance in a black-and-white Looney Tunes short.

It is the only time in which Looney Tunes characters have shared screen time with their rivals at Disney ( producers of the film )— particularly in the scenes where Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse are skydiving, and when Daffy Duck and Donald Duck are performing their " Dueling Pianos " sequence.

Immediately prior to this decision, Looney Tunes shorts were airing on several networks at once: on Cartoon Network, on Nickelodeon ( as Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon ), and on ABC ( as The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show ).

From February 29 – May 18, 2008, many Looney Tunes artifacts, including original animation cells & concept drawings, were on display at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, just off the campus of Youngstown State University.

The release of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 3 includes a disclaimer at the beginning of each DVD in the volume given by Whoopi Goldberg which explains that the cartoons are products of their time and contain racial and ethnic stereotypes that " were wrong then and they are wrong today ", but the cartoons are going to be presented on the DVD uncut and uncensored because editing them would be the same as denying that the stereotypes existed.

In issue # 94 of the Looney Tunes comic, Bugs Bunny gets his back at Daffy Duck by making him the victim, in switching various movie roles, from Duck Twacy in Who Killed Daffy Duck ," a video game character, and a talk show host, and they always wound up with Daffy starring in Moby Dick ( the story's running gag ).

The use of budget-cutting animation measures in animation dates at least to the 1920s ; a handful of the Bosko cartoons in the early years of the Looney Tunes series used several visible tricks ( such as mirror images and repeated scenes ) to give the shorts the comparable appearance of the Disney shorts of the same era, even though they were produced on a budget of just over half of their Disney counterparts ( Disney himself was known to recycle animation in his early years as well ); meanwhile, Max Fleischer took the obvious shortcut of recording the entire soundtrack in one session after the animation was completed in his 1930's cartoons ; he also made frequent use of " mumbling " to avoid the need to synchronize animating mouths to voices.

The Jordans were experts at transforming the ethnic humor of vaudeville into more rounded comic characters, no doubt due in part to the affection felt for the famous supporting cast members who voiced these roles, including Bill Thompson ( as the Old Timer and Wimple ), Harold Peary ( as Gildersleeve ), Gale Gordon ( as LaTrivia ), Arthur Q. Bryan ( as Dr. Gamble ; Bryan also voiced Elmer Fudd for the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoons, which also borrowed lines from Fibber McGee and Molly from time to time ), Isabel Randolph ( as Mrs. Uppington ), Marlin Hurt ( a white male who played in dialect the McGee's maid, Beulah ), and others.

Unlike the original shorts, The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries and Baby Looney Tunes were aimed primarily at young children, while Loonatics Unleashed was a controversial revamping of the characters in the distant future.

Before Looney and his wife started Looney Labs, they had both worked at NASA, where, in 1993, some of Looney's software was launched into orbit as part of the repairs to the Hubble Space Telescope .< ref name =" andybio ">

Schlesinger saw the Harman-Ising test film and signed the animators to produce cartoons at their studio for him to sell to Warner Bros. Bosko became the star vehicle for the studio's new Looney Tunes cartoon series.

One of the first Looney Tunes shorts directed by Freleng during his second tenure at the studio was You Ought to Be in Pictures, a short which blended animation with live-action footage of the Warner Bros. studio ( and of Schlesinger veterans such as story man Michael Maltese and even " Leon " himself ).

In 1986, Freleng stepped down and gave his position at Warner Bros. to his secretary at the time, Kathleen Helppie-Shipley, who ended up being the second-longest producer of the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies franchise, only behind Leon Schlesinger.

After leaving high school a few months shy of graduating in 1931, Clampett joined the team at Harman-Ising Productions and began working on the studio's newest short subjects, titled Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.
