Duntroon is adjacent to the Australian Defence Force Academy ( ADFA ), which is Australian Defence Force's tri-service military academy that provides military and tertiary academic education for junior officers of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Air Force and the Royal Australian Navy.

The leadership and military training provided at ADFA during the three years of training is considered the equivalent of III Class at RMC.

At ADFA, upon completion of all academic training through the " UNSW @ ADFA ", military training and subsequent training at other military establishments, officer cadets from the RAAF are promoted as commissioned officers, while those from the Australian Army spend another year at the Royal Military College, Duntroon before being commissioned.

In the Royal Australian Navy, there are Instructors at HMAS Cerberus, where the Recruit School course is held, and HMAS Creswell, where the NEOC ( New Entry Officer Course ) is held, as well as at ADFA.
