Rómulo Ernesto Betancourt Bello ( 22 February 1908 – 28 September 1981 ), known as " The Father of Venezuelan Democracy ", was President of Venezuela from 1945 to 1948 and again from 1959 to 1964, as well as leader of Accion Democratica, Venezuela's dominant political party in the 20th century.

" He told The Miami News in June 1974 that he was the head of Accion Cubana, and claimed the organization was responsible for a series of bomb attacks on Cuban consulates in Latin America since August 1973.

Despite the warning that constitutionally the church was not allowed to interfere with the politics, the church paper Accion social cristiana published articles.

During the period when the political system was dominated by Accion Democratica ( AD ) and COPEI ( 1958 – 1998 ), after the closure of Accion Democratica's La Republica in 1969, none of the major newspapers or broadcasters were affiliated with a political party.

The group that organized these meetings was organized on 12 April 1956, and first called itself Social Democratic Action ( Accion Social Democrata, ASD ) and its leaders met in 1957 under the name Christian Democratic Movement ( Movimiento Democrata Cristiano, MDC ).

Telemundo first introduced Telenoticias en Accion ( TV News in Action ) in 1954 and in the 1960s, Telenoticias en Accion was reintroduced and Irizarry was named anchor along with Ramon Enrique Torres, Juan Manuel Lebron and Bruni Velez.

In 1958, the three main non-communist opposition parties ( Accion Democratica, COPEI and URD ) made a conscious choice to exclude PCV from the power-sharing agreement, ( the Punto Fijo Pact ) that would underpin the transition to democracy.

In 1989, one of La Causa's leaders, Andrés Velásquez, became the first Venezuelan elected governor who did not belong to either of the two major political parties ( Accion Democratica and COPEI ), winning the Bolívar governorship on the Causa R ticket.
