Adama bi Ardo Hassana ( c. 1786 – c. 1847 ), more commonly known as Modibo Adama, was a Fulani scholar and holy warrior.

Adama came from a respected but humble family ; his father, Hassana, was a well regarded scholar of Islam and minor nobleman from Ba ' ajo.

The plateau was named after Fulani Muslim leader Modibo Adama.

Adama studied in Hausaland and earned the title " Modibo " (" Lettered One ") for his scholarship.

In his turn, Shehu inspired a number of later West African jihads, including those of Masina Empire founder Seku Amadu, Toucouleur Empire founder El Hadj Umar Tall ( who married one of dan Fodio's granddaughters ), and Adamawa Emirate founder Modibo Adama.
