In Aberdeen, Scotland, the shipbuilders Alexander Hall and Sons developed the " Aberdeen " clipper bow in the late 1830s: the first was the Scottish Maid launched in 1839.

Also, in commemoration of Alexander being named the first non-aboriginal chief of the Kwakiutl tribe, he was gifted a totem pole on 13 July 1946 ; crafted by Mungo Martin, it remains on the grounds of Rideau Hall today.

The Mitchell Hall, built 1896, was donated to the community by Alexander Mitchell Farmer at Redwells Farm. Alexander also donated the first Parish Church organ. The Mitchell Hall is used by local community groups, and is an asset to the wider Fife community.
