Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts both began solo careers, while Allman married Cher, separated quickly, reconciled, and eventually separated again, all in a storm of publicity ; drug abuse took its toll on the entire band.

Just Before the Bullets Fly quickly followed from Allman in 1988.

After joining up with Duane Allman in February 1969, he quickly became the first recruit into Allman's new group, soon joined by bassist Berry Oakley, fellow drummer Butch Trucks, guitarist Dickey Betts and lastly Allman's younger brother, singer, organist and pianist Gregg Allman.

The group, quickly named after the brothers Allman, began recording demos that April in Macon, Georgia, which became the group's spiritual home.

The band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman ( slide guitar and lead guitar ) and Gregg Allman ( vocals, organ, songwriting ), plus Dickey Betts ( lead guitar, vocals, songwriting ), Berry Oakley ( bass guitar ), Butch Trucks ( drums ), and Jai Johanny " Jaimoe " Johanson ( drums ).

The group was formed in Macon, GA, and consisted of Duane and Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny Johanson.

They formed a garage band called the Escorts in 1963, which evolved into the Allman Joys in 1965.

The Allman Brothers Band, formed in Jacksonville, Florida, made their national début in 1969 and soon gained a loyal following.

The Allman Brothers were signed to Capricorn Records, a small Macon label formed and headed by Phil Walden ( former manager of Otis Redding ) and partner Frank Fenter, former European Managing Director of Atlantic Records.

Gov't Mule ( pronounced Government Mule ) is a Southern rock jam band formed in 1994 as an Allman Brothers Band side project by Warren Haynes and Allen Woody.

However, the overdriven sound of the Hammond gained a new image when it became part of 1960s and 1970s rock with artists like Alan Price, Gregg Allman, Steve Winwood, Rick Wright, Keith Emerson, Jon Lord, Matthew Fisher, Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks and Jack McDuff.

Daytona Beach Shores was the teenage home of musicians Gregg and Duane Allman.

Brothers Duane and Gregg Allman grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida, and had been playing music publicly since the early 1960s.

Gregg and Duane had previously met Butch Trucks and his band The 31st of February while touring as the Allman Joys, and decided to record an album with them in September 1968, shortly after the breakup of Hour Glass.

The final shows achieved legendary status, partly due to bands literally playing all night ; in 2005 Gregg Allman would relate how the jamming musicians lost track of time, not realizing it was dawn until the side doors of the Fillmore were opened and the morning light poured in.

The band managed to limp along until 1976, when Gregg Allman was arrested on federal drug charges and agreed to testify against a friend and tour manager and bodyguard for the band, John " Scooter " Herring.

The following year, the Gregg Allman Band and the Dickey Betts Band co-headlined a theatre and club tour.

The Gregg Allman Band had a surprise FM hit single with the title track to the 1987 album I'm No Angel.

The band cancelled their Beacon run for 2008 due to Gregg Allman recovering from hepatitis C treatments, but they were back on the road that summer for the amphitheater circuit.

It is also used in rock, by bands and artists such as Canned Heat, The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Ry Cooder, Chris Rea, Bonnie Raitt, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Feat, Eagles, ZZ Top, Whitesnake and AC / DC.

Like Alan Wilson, Duane Allman played a key role in bringing slide guitar into rock music, through his work with The Allman Brothers Band, specifically on the 1971 live album At Fillmore East and with Derek and the Dominos ' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album.

The event, which was attended by over 600, 000 music fans, also featured the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band.

In January 2007, a tribute album, entitled Endless Highway: The Music of The Band, was released which included contributions by My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Gomez, Guster, Bruce Hornsby, Jack Johnson and ALO, Lee Ann Womack, The Allman Brothers Band, Blues Traveler, Jakob Dylan, and Rosanne Cash, amongst others.

Although a songwriter herself, Baez is generally regarded as an interpreter of other people's work, having recorded songs by The Allman Brothers Band, The Beatles, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Violeta Parra, Woody Guthrie, The Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Leonard Cohen, and many others.

Soon he was booked to open for acts such as the Allman Brothers Band and B. B.

Garcia, Chris Hillman, the Stanley Brothers Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers Band and others in the 1960s and 1970s helped introduce rock music listeners to progressive and traditional bluegrass.

A few demos were recorded and the tape found its way over to Steve Massarsky, who was managing The Allman Brothers Band.

Duane Allman, later of Allman Brothers Band fame, once pitched a tent and camped out in the parking lot of FAME studios in an effort to be near the recording sessions occurring there.

Auditions for the Allman Brothers Band were later held at FAME Studios.
