Alphonse of Poitiers ( 11 November 1220 – 21 August 1271 ) was the Count of Poitou from 1225 and Count of Toulouse ( as Alfonso II ) from 1247.

The French King Philip the Fair, who had inherited from his father all the rights of Alphonse de Poitiers ( the last Count of Toulouse ), made them over to Charles II, King of Naples and Count of Provence ( 1290 ).

One son of King Louis VIII of France " the Lion ", Alphonse, Count of Poitou, married the heiress of the Count of Toulouse, Joan.

In 1241, when Isabella and Hugh were summoned to the French court to swear fealty to King Louis IX of France's brother, Alphonse, who had been invested as Count of Poitou, their mother, the Queen Dowager Blanche openly snubbed her.

The Infante Juan of Spain, Count of Barcelona ( Juan Carlos Teresa Silvestre Alfonso de Borbón y Battenberg ; English: John Charles Therese Sylvester Alphonse of Bourbon and Battenberg ) ( 20 June 1913 – 1 April 1993 ), was the third surviving son and designated heir of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, the monarch replaced by the Second Spanish Republic, and father of King Juan Carlos I, under whom a constitutional monarchy was restored.

On 5 February 1297, Louis was also consecrated Bishop of Toulouse, where his uncle, Alphonse of Toulouse had until recently been Count, but had died in 1271 leaving no heir.

It stipulated that a brother of King Louis was to marry Joan of Toulouse, daughter of Raymond VII of Toulouse, and so in 1237 Alphonse married her.

Its foundation dates from 1144 when Alphonse Jourdain, count of Toulouse, granted it a liberal charter.

The affection of his mother Blanche seems largely to have been bestowed upon his brother Louis ; and Louis tended to favour his other younger brothers, Robert of Artois and Alphonse of Toulouse.

Moreover, Raymond had to marry his daughter Jeanne to Louis ' brother Alphonse, with the couple and their heirs obtaining Toulouse after Raymond's death, and the inheritance reverting to the king in case they did not have issue, as actually happened.

This marked him out as a capable editor for the new edition of by Dom Vaissète: he superintended the reprinting of the text, adding notes on the feudal administration of this province from 900 to 1250, on the government of Alphonse of Toulouse, brother of St Louis ( 1220 – 1271 ), and on the historical geography of the province of Languedoc in the Middle Ages.

An act of Alphonse Jourdain exempts them from the tax on salt and wine ; and in 1152 we have traces of a commune consilium Tolosae making police ordinances in its own name " with the advice of Lord Raymond, count of Toulouse, duke of Narbonne, and marquis of Provence ".

On 20 March 1975, Alfonso's father Jaime died ; he was immediately recognised by his supporters as King Alphonse II of France.
