Aloysius " Alois " Alzheimer (; 14 June 1864 – 19 December 1915 ) was a German psychiatrist and neuropathologist and a colleague of Emil Kraepelin.

Alois Alzheimer was born in Marktbreit, Bavaria on 14 June 1864.

In April 1906, Mrs Deter died and Alzheimer had the patient records and the brain brought to Munich where he was working at Kraepelin's lab.

As a colleague of Alois Alzheimer, and co-discoverer of Alzheimer's disease, it was his laboratory which discovered its pathologic basis.

Since the Ca < sup > 2 +</ sup > hypothesis of Alzheimer ’ s was proposed in 1994, several studies have shown that disruptions in Ca < sup > 2 +</ sup > signalling are the primary cause of Alzheimer ’ s disease.

It was described by Otto Binswanger in 1894, and Alois Alzheimer first used the phrase " Binswanger's disease " in 1902.

Also, it was found that gross motor memory in Alzheimer ’ s patients was the same as that of healthy adults when learning occurs under constant practice.
