* The third of composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann's 1929 – 30 composition Wachsfigurenkabinett: Fünf kleine Opern ( Waxworks: Five Little Operas ) is entitled ' Chaplin-Ford-Trot ', and features the character of Charlie Chaplin ( in a speaking rather than operatic role ).

His grandfather, Thomas Francis, founder of the Carignano line of the House of Savoy, was the son of Catherine Michelle – a daughter of Philip II of Spain – and the great-grandson of the Emperor Charles V. But of more immediate consequence to Leopold I was the fact that Eugene was the second cousin of Victor Amadeus, the Duke of Savoy, a connection that the Emperor hoped might prove useful in any future confrontation with France.

Initially fighting on the Rhine with Max Emmanuel – receiving a slight head wound at the Siege of Mainz in 1689 – Eugene subsequently transferred himself to Piedmont after Victor Amadeus joined the Alliance against France in 1690.

Against Eugene's advice Amadeus insisted on engaging the French at Staffarda and suffered a serious defeat – only Eugene's handling of the Savoyard cavalry in retreat saved his cousin from disaster.

This was Eugene's first truly independent command – no longer need he suffer under the excessively cautious generalship of Caprara and Caraffa, or be thwarted by the deviations of Victor Amadeus.

Nevertheless, composers continued to write and study fugues for various purposes ; they appear in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ( 1756 – 1791 ) and Ludwig van Beethoven ( 1770 – 1827 ), as well as modern composers such as Dmitri Shostakovich ( 1906 – 1975 ).

German music, sponsored by the upper classes, came of age under composers Johann Sebastian Bach ( 1685 – 1750 ), Joseph Haydn ( 1732 – 1809 ), and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ( 1756 – 1791 ).

Two of the most prominent composers of the Classical period ( music ), Joseph Haydn ( 1732 – 1809 ) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ( 1756 – 1791 ), wrote harpsichord music.

They were not prepared, however, for a special visit in 1770 from a 14-year-old named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who, on a visit to Rome with his father, heard it but twice and transcribed it faithfully from memory, thus creating the first known unauthorised copy.

The most important symphonists of the latter part of the 18th century are Joseph Haydn, who wrote at least 108 symphonies over the course of 36 years ( Webster and Feder 2001 ), and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who wrote at least 56 symphonies in 24 years ( Eisen and Sadie 2001 ).

According to the much later Chronicles of Savoy, Amadeus married Joan, daughter of " Girard, Count of Burgundy ", who scholars have surmised to have been Count Gerold II of Geneva.

This has led some scholars, beginning with the Conte di Vesme, to make Otto II the eldest son of Amadeus II, who succeeded him and was in turn succeeded by Humbert II.

After crossing into Anatolia, Amadeus, who was leading the vanguard, became separated from Louis near Laodicea, and Louis ' forces were almost entirely destroyed.

His brothers Pietro and Aimone spurred a revolt in Aosta Valley against Amadeus, but he was able to crush it with the help of Manfred III of Saluzzo and Boniface II of Montferrat, who were his sons-in-law.

Although he was the next brother of Amadeus IV, he never became the Count of Savoy because he predeceased his nephew, who himself died without sons to succeed him.

Amadeus was a younger brother of Thomas III of Piedmont, who had died in 1282.

Thomas had been succeeded by his eldest son Philip I of Piedmont who had a stronger claim to the County than Amadeus.

The hereditary title belonged to Amadeus II, Count of Geneva who was in conflift with the Bishop.

He asked for Anne Marie's hand in March 1684, Victor Amadeus, who had been using political allies to gain support to end his mother's grip on power, succeeded on 14 March 1684 when she was banished from further influence in the state.

Power at this point still being with Victor Amadeus ' mother, she ordered representatives of the town of Mondovì to go to Turin to conclude treaties and were cordially welcomed by the young Victor Amadeus, who agreed to the treaties.

By 1702, Victor Amadeus was considering changing allegiance to the emperor again having entered secret correspondence with the emperor who promised him the Duchy of Montferrat.

He was the eldest son of his parents and was the heir apparent from birth which was greeted with much celebration – his father had had a son with his first wife also named Victor Amadeus, Duke of Aosta who died in 1725.

In 1713, Charles's great-great-great-grandson Victor Amadeus II of Savoy received confirmation to that title from the Kings of Spain and France, who also claimed it.

In 1747 he married Anna Maria Pertl, who bore him seven children, although only two of them survived past infancy: Maria Anna Wallburga Ignatia ( called " Nannerl ") and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Nonetheless, the marriage produced three children: Marie Louise d ' Orléans, future queen of Spain, who left France in 1679 when Philippe was just five ; Philippe Charles ( 1664 – 1666 ), Duke of Valois ; and Anne Marie d ' Orléans, born at Saint-Cloud in 1669, later queen consort of Victor Amadeus II of Sardinia ( they became the maternal grandparents of Philippe's future protégé Louis XV ).

The city was unsuccessfully besieged by Amadeus VI of Savoy, who had captured all Bulgarian fortresses to the south of it, including Galata, in 1366.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who favoured addition of a viola, is considered a pioneer of the form.

The council went on ( in spite of the intervention of most of the powers ) to pronounce Eugene IV deposed ( 25 June 1439 ), giving rise to a new schism by electing ( 4 November 1439 ) duke Amadeus VIII of Savoy, as ( anti ) pope, who took the name of Felix V.

This tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and court composer Antonio Salieri who, overcome with jealousy at hearing the " voice of God " coming from an " obscene child ", sets out to destroy his rival.

The second son of Otto, Count of Savoy, and Adelaide, Margravine of Turin, Amadeus II was probably born around 1050, because he, alongside other noblemen of the Kingdom of Burgundy, swore an oath on the tomb of Saint Peter in Rome to defend the Church around 1070 – 73.

Finally Amadeus of Savoy, Duke of Ostia, was elected by Parliament as new King of Spain.

When King Amadeus finally had the bill in his desk, which would extend the 1837 Abolition Act to the Antilles, he was put on notice of a coup financed by Cuban plantationers and industrialists if he signed.

This revival was due to the dramatic and highly fictionalized depiction of Salieri in Peter Shaffer's 1979 play Amadeus, which was given its greatest exposure in its 1984 film version, directed by Miloš Forman.

A pattern to be imitated by later composers, most famously and successfully by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Don Giovanni.

* A hugely popular yet heavily fictionalized perpetuation of the story came in Peter Shaffer's play Amadeus ( 1979 ) and the Oscar-winning 1984 film directed by Miloš Forman based upon it.

* In episode 2, season 4 of " How I Met Your Mother ", entitled " The Best Burger in New York ", Marshall's description of the taste of the best burger uses music that alludes to the 1984 film " Amadeus ", when Antonio Salieri describes the same music ( by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ) with the same accuracy and passion with which Marshall speaks of the burger.

* In episode 17, season 5 of " Family Guy ", entitled " It Takes a Village Idiot, and I Married One ", the Griffin family is wearing powdered wigs in their living room and Stewie Griffin begins playing several classical compositions, including those by Joseph Haydn and George Frideric Handel, when Peter Griffin, as Salieri, says " Play Peter Griffin ", alluding to the 1984 film Amadeus, when the disguised Salieri character requests that Mozart imitate his compositional style.

In Turin on 29 September 1781 ( by proxy ) and again in Dresden on 24 October 1781 ( in person ), Anton married firstly with the Princess Caroline of Savoy ( Maria Carolina Antonietta Adelaida ), daughter of the King Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia and Maria Antonietta of Spain.

Antonín Dvořák's String Quintet in G major, Op. 77 and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Serenade in G major, K. 525 (" Eine kleine Nachtmusik ") are the most popular pieces in this repertoire, along with works by Darius Milhaud, Luigi Boccherini ( 3 quintets ), Harold Shapero, and Paul Hindemith.

And Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera " Apollo et Hyacinthus " was performed by males only, although the libretto differed from the original text of Ovidius to reduce homosexual relations among Apollon, Hyacinthus, and Zephyrus.

He was a master of counterpoint, the complex and highly disciplined art for which Johann Sebastian Bach is famous, and of development, a compositional ethos pioneered by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Once ensconced at Naples, Charles found his new kingdom invaded by Louis of Anjou and Amadeus VI of Savoy ; hard-pressed, he reneged on his promises.

Le nozze di Figaro, ossia la folle giornata ( The Marriage of Figaro, or The Day of Madness ), K. 492, is an opera buffa ( comic opera ) composed in 1786 in four acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with a libretto in Italian by Lorenzo Da Ponte, based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro ( 1784 ).
