In the Book of Exodus, Amram () Arabic عمران Imran, is the father of Aaron, Moses, and Miriam and the husband of Jochebed.
The first one is Amram the father of Moses and the second one is Joachim the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Although Muslim scholars have often debated over who this verse refers to, most classical commentators and modern translators have taken the opinion that this refers to Amram, the father of Moses and Aaron.
The Exodus Rabbah argues that when the Pharaoh instructed midwives to throw male children into the Nile, Amram divorced Jochebed, who was three months pregnant with Moses at the time, arguing that there was no justification for the Israelite men to father children if they were just to be killed ; however, the text goes on to state that Miriam, his daughter, chided him for his lack of care for his wife's feelings, persuading him to recant and marry Jochebed again.
A similar genealogy is given in the Book of Exodus, where it is added that among Kohath's sons was one — Amram — who married a woman named Jochebed, who was closely related to his father, and they were the biological parents of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam ; though some Greek and Latin manuscripts of the Torah state that Jochebed was Amram's father's cousin, the masoretic text states that she was his father's sister, and the Septuagint mentions that she was one of his father's sisters.
Also in The Dead Sea Scrolls is a recounting of a dream of Amram, the father of Moses, who finds two ' watchers ' contesting over him.
According to the Torah, Izhar () was the father of Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri, and was a son of Kohath and grandson of Levi, consequently being the brother of Amram and uncle of Aaron, Miriam, and Moses.
The Qur ' an refers to Mary as being from the " house of Amram ", which is a reference to Amram, the father of Moses, Aaron and Miriam, through whom Mary descended.

For this reason, to a modern reader the wording of the Seder Rav Amram appears far closer to an Ashkenazic than a Sephardic text, a fact which misled Moses Gaster into believing that the Ashkenazic rite was based on the Babylonian while the Sephardic rite was essentially Palestinian.

She lived in the household of Amram, and is said to have been a descendant of the prophet and priest Aaron.
