The tiny European nation of Andorra is nominally a duumvirate, as it is ruled by two co-princes, one of whom is François Hollande, the President of France, the other of whom is Joan Enric Vives i Sicília, Bishop of the Diocese of Urgell, although the Andorran prime minister wields de facto power as the head of government.

Twenty nations held a policy of neutrality in September 1939, but only seven other European nations found themselves capable, like Sweden, of officially maintaining this stance throughout the entire war: these were Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Vatican City and Switzerland.

After representing his country at every level from the under-16s upwards, and winning the UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship ( then Under-18 ) in 1994, Quim made his senior debut in August 1999 in a 4 – 0 victory against Andorra, after which he was Portugal's third-choice keeper at UEFA Euro 2000, enjoying a short cameo as a substitute in the 3 – 0 win against Germany in the group stage's final round, before establishing himself as number one in the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Two further goals followed in England's next match, a 5 – 0 win over Andorra in their opening qualifying match for the 2008 European Championships on 2 September 2006.
