In Masami Kurumada's Saint Seiya comic book, which is inspired by Greek myths, the character Perseus Algol is one of the warriors known as the Saints of Athena, and he wears an armor known as the Perseus Cloth, which represents the mythological figure and also his constellation.

Athena has been used numerous times as a symbol of a republic by different countries and appears on currency as she did on the ancient drachma of Athens.

The snake was fed honey-cakes by Canephorae, the priestesses of Athena Polias, by custom the women of the ancient family of Eteoboutadae, the supposed descendants of the hero Boutes.

Athena instructed Perseus to find the Hesperides, who were entrusted with weapons needed to defeat the Gorgon.

It was Campbell, informed by his deep well of mythological imagery, who identified the psycho-spiritual transformations of the dance as the inner life of Medusa, the beautiful Greek virgin raped by Poseidon and then condemned for her own defilement to life as a snakey-headed Gorgon by Athena.

He would later " give birth " to Athena from his head, which would anger Hera enough for her to produce her own son parthenogenetically, Typhaon, the part snake, part dragon sea monster, or in other versions Hephaistos, god of fire and blacksmiths.

Athena is said to have sprung from the head of Zeus.

Athena was born unharmed, bursting out of his head in full armor.

Adolf Furtwängler proposed to find, in a statue of which the head is at Bologna, and of which the body is at Dresden, a copy of the Lemnian Athena of Phidias.

The torso of Athena in the École des Beaux-Arts at Paris, which has unfortunately lost its head, may perhaps best serve to help our imagination in reconstructing the original statue.

Vase-painters, when illustrating the birth of Athena from Zeus ' head, may show two assisting Eileithyiai, with their hands raised in the epiphany gesture.

Chrysaor and Pegasus were said to be born from the drops of Medusa's blood which fell in the sea ; others say that they sprang from Medusa's neck as Perseus beheaded her, a " higher " birth ( such as the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus ).

Perseus is said by some to have given the head, which retained the power of turning into stone all who looked upon it, to Athena.

According to other accounts, either he or Athena used the head to turn Atlas into stone, transforming him into the Atlas Mountains that held up both heaven and earth.

Heracles is said to have obtained a lock of Medusa ’ s hair ( which possessed the same powers as the head ) from Athena and to have given it to Sterope, the daughter of Cepheus, as a protection for the town of Tegea against attack.

According to the later idea of Medusa as a beautiful maiden, whose hair had been changed into snakes by Athena, the head was represented in works of art with a wonderfully handsome face, wrapped in the calm repose of death.

One night, Athena appeared in front of her ; at the sight of Medusa's head which was worked in the goddess ' garment, Iodame turned into stone.

Either Hermes or Hephaestus split Zeus's head, allowing Athena, in full battle armor, to burst forth from his forehead.

The Hydra's one immortal head was cut off with a golden sword given to him by Athena.
