According to Suetonius in his De vita Caesarum ( The Lives of the Twelve Caesars ), written in the first century CE, the emperor Augustus sometimes presented old and exotic coins to friends and courtiers during festivals and other special occasions.

The term universe of discourse is generally attributed to Augustus De Morgan ( 1846 ) and was also used by George Boole ( 1854 ) in his Laws of Thought.

The father of Julia the Elder was the Emperor Augustus, and Julia was his only natural child from his second marriage to Scribonia, who had close blood relations with Pompey the Great and Lucius Cornelius Sulla.

Her great-uncle Tiberius had already become emperor and the head of the family after the death of Augustus in 14.

The temple to Ares in the agora of Athens that Pausanias saw in the second century AD had only been moved and rededicated there during the time of Augustus ; in essence it was a Roman temple to the Augustan Mars Ultor.

At the same time, the subjugated " allied " tribes of Moesia and Thrace evidently repudiated their treaties with Rome, as they had to be re-conquered by Augustus in 29-8 BC ( see below ).
