His sister was the novelist and playwright Enid Bagnold, who wrote the 1935 novel National Velvet.

National Velvet is a novel by Enid Bagnold ( 1889 – 1981 ), first published in 1935.

Enid Algerine Bagnold, Lady Jones, CBE ( 27 October 1889 – 31 March 1981 ), known by her maiden name as Enid Bagnold, was a British author and playwright, best known for the 1935 story National Velvet which was filmed in 1944 with Elizabeth Taylor.

( Years later, in 1923, Sir Roderick Jones, head of Reuters, and his wife, playwright and novelist Enid Bagnold, were to add the adjacent Gothic House to the property and which became the inspiration and setting for her play The Chalk Garden ).
