* December 4, 1829 – India: In the face of fierce opposition, British Lord William Bentinck carries a regulation declaring that all who abet suttee in India are guilty of culpable homicide.

Macaulay succeeded in implementing ideas previously put forward by Lord William Bentinck, the governor general since 1829.

He returned to India in 1829, and was appointed revenue surveyor by Lord William Bentinck at Gorakhpur.

It was composed exclusively of the mediatized families of comital rank recognized as belonging, since 1825, to the same historical category and sharing some of the same privileges as reigning dynasties by the various states of the German Confederation ; these families were German with a few exceptions ( e. g. Bentinck, Rechteren-Limpurg ).

Bentinck, then still Conservative leader in the Commons, joined Disraeli in speaking and voting for the bill, although his own speech was a standard one of toleration.

It passed through the female line into the Bentinck family, and ultimately became one of the seats of the Dukes of Portland.

At its creation, fifty years earlier, Portland's father, William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland, had been one of the founding governors, listed on the charity's royal charter granted by George II.

Henry had one son and five daughters with his first wife, Jemima Crew ( d. 1728 ), and one son and one daughter with his second wife, Sophia Bentinck ( d. 1741 ).

His political career began in 1830 as secretary to Lord William Bentinck ; and in 1837 he became one of the most trusted advisers of the governor-general, Lord Auckland, with whose policy of supporting Shah Shuja against Dost Mahommed Khan, the reigning amir of Kabul, Macnaghten became closely identified.

The reservoir was once a medieval mill pond, but in 1837, William Bentinck, the fourth Duke of Portland agreed with the millers who leased mills further down the river that a large head of water was required to maintain the water supply throughout the year.

In 1827 he obtained a seat in the supreme council, and in March 1835, after he had acted as the first governor of the proposed new presidency of Agra, he provisionally succeeded Lord William Bentinck as the Governor General of Bengal ( 1835 – 36 ).

She came from an upper class background, being the daughter of Captain Sir St Vincent Hawkins-Whitshed, 3rd Baronet ( 1837 – 1871 ) ( see Hawkins-Whitshed Baronets ) by his wife Anne Alicia ( née Handcock ) ( 1837 – 1908 ), and further back was descended from the aristocratic Bentinck family, and was therefore related to the Dukes of Portland.

An alliance of pro free-trade Conservatives ( the " Peelites "), Radicals, and Whigs carried repeal, and the Conservative Party split: the Peelites moved towards the Whigs, while a " new " Conservative Party formed around the protectionists, led by Disraeli, Bentinck, and Lord Stanley ( later Lord Derby ).

His father Charles Greville was a son of 1st Earl of Warwick, and his mother was Lady Charlotte Bentinck, daughter of the 3rd Duke of Portland ( former leader of the Whig party and Prime Minister ).

After the Bourbon family fled from Naples to Sicily in 1806, and Lord William Bentinck, the British resident, had established a constitution and deprived Ferdinand of all power, Francis was appointed regent ( 1812 ).

He was the great-great-great-great-grandson of William Bentinck, 1st Graf Bentinck ( 1704 – 1774 ) and eldest son of the 1st Earl from his second marriage, who had been created a Count of the Holy Roman Empire in 1732 ( with a Royal Licence of 1886 to use the title in England ).

Bentinck has been an actor since 1982 and is best known for the roles of David Archer in the BBC Radio 4 series The Archers and Tom Lacey in the BBC drama series " By the Sword Divided " ( 1983 – 85 ).

The earliest published report on this candiru attacking human hosts comes from German biologist C. F. P. von Martius in 1829, who never actually observed it, but rather was told about it by the native people of the area, including that men would tie a ligature around their penis while going into the river to prevent this from happening.

Besides traveling through many states of the United States to deliver anti-slavery lectures, Lundy visited Haiti twice, in 1825 and 1829 ; the Wilberforce Colony of freedmen and refugee slaves in Canada in 1830-1831 ; and Texas, in 1832 and again in 1833 ; all these visits being made, in part, to find a suitable place outside the United States to which emancipated slaves might be sent.
