Harman Blennerhassett ( 8 October 1764 – 2 February 1831 ) was an Irish-American lawyer, born in Castle Conway in County Kerry, Ireland, to Conway Blennerhassett and Elizabeth Lacy.

The island was then abandoned, and Blennerhassett was in turn a cotton planter in Mississippi and a lawyer ( 1819-1822 ) in Montreal, Canada.

John Blennerhassett of Tralee, Co. Kerry, was the cousin of Harman Blennerhassett.

The passage in which he depicted in glowing colors the home of Harman Blennerhassett, and “ the wife of his bosom, whom he lately permitted not the winds of summer ' to visit too roughly ,'” as “ shivering at midnight on the wintry banks of the Ohio, and mingling her tears with the torrents that froze as they fell ,” was for many years a favorite piece for academic declamation.

It was built by Sir Rowland Blennerhassett in 1800 but by 1846 had fallen into ruins.

Belleek Town in its present layout was founded on the Blennerhassett estate during the Plantation of Ulster in the early 17th century.

On March 9, 2005, a tied arch Ohio River crossing design was chosen from four designs as it was the " most economical and least intrusive on the environment of Blennerhassett Island.

Ostracised by their families for this step, the couple decided to settle in America, where Blennerhassett in 1798 bought a ( now-eponymous ) island in the Ohio River about two miles below what is now Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The buildings on his island have since been restored and the location is now Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, a popular tourist attraction near Parkersburg.
