Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances ( using short-wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band from 2400 – 2480 MHz ) from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks ( PANs ) with high levels of security.

The combination of these ( BR and EDR ) modes in Bluetooth radio technology is classified as a " BR / EDR radio ".

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group ( SIG ) is the body that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards and the licensing of the Bluetooth technologies and trademarks to manufacturers.

Originally developed by Ericsson, Bluetooth technology is now used in many different products by many different manufacturers.
