In September at Loudon New Hampshire, Tony Stewart lead part of the final stages trying to hold off Clint Bowyer for RCR who dominated the race ; when the white flag waved the fans saw that Tony Stewart was out of gas ; Bowyer passed him and won both the white flag and the checkers.

Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson dominated but on the restart they crashed with Clint Bowyer and Newman came through unscathed on route to the win.

In June at the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma, Bowyer dominated the race, scoring his first road course and MWR win by holding off Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch.

Bowyer trimmed his participation in the Nationwide series to 12 races but performed well, winning at Daytona ( July 3 ) and Dover ( Sept. 26th ), finishing in the top 5 in 6 of the 12 races and notching 8 top 10s.

In the Daytona 500, Bowyer teamed up with many drivers throughout the day including Jeff Burton, Paul Menard ( his new RCR teammate ), Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Kyle Busch.

Its primary driver lineup consisted of Logano, Hamlin, Truex, and JGR development driver Darrell Wallace, Jr. Michael Waltrip Racing driver Clint Bowyer also drove the # 20 at Daytona when Hamlin was sidelined from the race by back problems.

In his first race in the car, Bowyer finished fourth in the 2009 Daytona 500.

On lap 31 of the Pennsylvania 500, Stewart was accidentally squeezed against the wall by fellow driver Clint Bowyer.
