Early in the 20th century, future Virginia politician Harry F. Byrd, Sr. and his wife established their first home near Berryville, where he undertook extensive agricultural activity growing peaches and apples.

Byrd had two brothers, Symond and John, who became London merchants, and four sisters, Alice, Barbara, Mary and Martha.

" William Byrd of Cincinnati led the symphony for the next ten years, during which the LSO developed a regular subscription series of four or five concerts per season, put on an annual production of an opera or operetta, and began annual concerts for school children.

Admiral Byrd was married ( 20 January 1915 ) to the former Marie Donaldson Ames ( he named a region of Antarctic land he discovered “ Marie Byrd Land ”) and had four children:

The native tradition of Latin music which Byrd had done so much to keep alive more or less died with him, while consort music underwent a huge change of character at the hands of a new generation of professional musicians at the Jacobean and Caroline courts.

Although Byrd supported Congressional acceptance of the amendment, he contended that Wilson had deviated from " historic tradition " by not waiting for Congress to consider the validity of the ratification, given the more than 202-year lapse since the Amendment had been proposed.

It is perhaps the most famous lost mine in American history: Arizona place-name expert Byrd Granger notes that, as of 1977, the Lost Dutchman story was printed or cited at least six times more often than two other fairly well known tales, the story of Captain Kidd's lost treasure, and the story of the Lost Pegleg mine in California.

When he was denied the position, William Byrd II returned once more to London on romantic endeavors.

Byrd was not a kind master, and beat his slaves often, and sometimes devised other punishments even more cruel and unusual:

She struggled just enough to make her admirer more eager, so that if I had not been there, he would have been in danger of carrying his joke a little too far " ( p. 642, Heath ) This is just one of the many examples in which Byrd clearly distinguishes himself as the moral superior of his companions.

Wright started 2004 in the minors to build up arm strength, but was called up by the Braves when it was discovered pitcher Paul Byrd needed more time to rehab his arm ( he had missed the entire 2003 season due to Tommy John surgery ).

English Renaissance music kept in touch with continental developments far more than visual art, and managed to survive the Reformation relatively successfully, though William Byrd and other major figures were Catholic.

( U. S. Senators Thurmond and Byrd each also reached the age of 90 while representing a U. S. constituency with a population of a million or more, before and after him, respectively.

Six months later, Byrd was back in Germany to defend the title against Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali's younger, more agile brother.

Byrd High School, where he finished with 5, 137 total yards and rushed for 49 career touchdowns while throwing for 28 more and scored one touchdown on a kickoff return.

The Chinook Kennels here raised sled dogs for the Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd Antarctic expeditions and the Army's search-and-rescue units.

Byrd claimed that his expeditions had been the first to reach the North Pole and the South Pole by air.

In 1928, Admiral Byrd began his first expedition to the Antarctic involving two ships, and three airplanes: Byrd's Flagship was The City of New York ( a Norwegian sealing ship previously named Samson that had come into fame as a ship in the vicinity of Titanic when the latter was sinking ); a Ford Trimotor called the Floyd Bennett ( named after the recently deceased pilot of Byrd's previous expeditions ); a Fairchild FC-2W2, NX8006, built 1928, named " Stars And Stripes " ( now displayed at the Virginia Aviation Museum, on loan from the National Air and Space Museum ); and a Fokker Universal monoplane called the Virginia ( Byrd's birth state ).

Edsel also helped to finance exploratory expeditions, including the historic flight of Admiral Richard Byrd over the North Pole in 1926.

Byrd, in his Antarctic expeditions, also financed by Edsel, named the Edsel Ford Range of mountains after him.

Paul Siple in 1932Paul Allman Siple ( December 18, 1908 – November 25, 1968 ) was an American Antarctic explorer and geographer who took part in six Antarctic expeditions, including the two Byrd expeditions of 1928 – 1930 and 1933 – 1935, representing the Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout.

The island was discovered from the air by Rear Admiral Byrd on February 27, 1940, who named it for W. Harris Thurston, New York textile manufacturer, designer of the windproof " Byrd Cloth " and sponsor of Antarctic expeditions.

Dr. Siple was the same Eagle Scout who accompanied Admiral Byrd on the previous Byrd Antarctic expeditions.

Discovered by Rear Admiral Byrd while on the Byrd Antarctic Expedition Eastern Flight of December 5, 1929, and named by him during the Byrd Antarctic Expedition ( 1933-35 ) for Josephine Clay Ford, daughter of Edsel Ford, contributor to both expeditions.

Elevations bordering the Beardmore Glacier, at the western extremity of these mountains, were observed by the British expeditions led by Ernest Shackleton ( 1907-09 ) and Robert Falcon Scott ( 1910-13 ), but the mountains as a whole were mapped by several American expeditions led by Richard Evelyn Byrd ( 1930s and 1940s ), and United States Antarctic Program ( USARP ) and New Zealand Antarctic Research Program ( NZARP ) expeditions from the 1950s through the 1970s.

They were discovered by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition in 1934, and named for William C. Haines, the meteorologist of the Byrd expeditions of 1928 – 30 and 1933 – 35.
