In Canada the provinces of Atlantic Canada are known for being a home of Celtic music, most notably on the islands of Newfoundland, Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island.

Further, some older forms of Celtic music that are rare in Scotland and Ireland today, such as practice of accompanying a fiddle with a piano, or the Gaelic spinning songs of Cape Breton remain common in the Maritimes.

Cape Breton Island (-formerly Île Royale, Scottish Gaelic: Ceap Breatainn or Eilean Cheap Bhreatainn, Míkmaq: Únamakika, simply: Cape Breton ) is an island on the Atlantic coast of North America.

Cape Breton Island is part of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada.

The island is divided into four of Nova Scotia's eighteen counties: Cape Breton, Inverness, Richmond, and Victoria.

Cape Breton Island has experienced a decline in population of approximately 4. 4 % since the previous census in 2006.

Approximately 75 % of the island's population is located in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality ( CBRM ) which includes all of Cape Breton County and is often referred to as Industrial Cape Breton, given the history of coal mining and steel manufacturing in this area.

Cape Breton Island's first residents were likely Maritime Archaic natives, ancestors of the Mi ' kmaq, the latter of whom inhabited the island at the time of European discovery.

However, historians are unclear as to whether Cabot first visited Newfoundland or Cape Breton Island.

During the Anglo-French War ( 1627 – 1629 ), under Charles I, by 1629 the Kirkes took Quebec City, Sir James Stewart of Killeith, Lord Ochiltree planted a colony on Cape Breton Island at Baleine, Nova Scotia and Alexander ’ s son, William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling established the first incarnation of “ New Scotland ” at Port Royal.

In addition to Cape Breton Island, the French colony of Île Royale also included Île St .- Jean ( today called Prince Edward Island ).

The first permanently settled Scottish community on Cape Breton Island was Judique, settled in 1775 by Michael Mor MacDonald.

Kerguelen Islands ( France ; also an EU Overseas territory ) are situated in the Antarctic Convergence area, while the Falkland Islands, Isla de los Estados, Hornos Island with Cape Horn, Diego Ramírez Islands, Campbell Island, Macquarie Island, Amsterdam and Saint Paul Islands, Crozet Islands, Prince Edward Islands, and Gough Island and Tristan da Cunha group remain north of the Convergence and thus outside the Antarctic region.

The Voortrekkers were those Boers ( mainly from the eastern Cape ) who left the Cape en masse in a series of large scale migrations later called the Great Trek beginning in 1835 as a result of British colonialism and constant border wars.

Since the 1990s the region has experienced an exceptionally tumultuous period in its regional economy with the collapse of large portions of the ground fishery throughout Atlantic Canada, the closing of coal mines and a steel mill on Cape Breton Island, and the closure of military bases in all three provinces.

With the cooperation of some local tribes, the Portuguese entered the slave trade and exported large numbers of Africans to the Western Hemisphere via the Cape Verde Islands.

It encompasses Cape Malea and Cape Tainaron and a large part of the Mani Peninsula.

Although PAGAD's leadership denied involvement, PAGAD's G-Force, operating in small cells, was believed responsible for killing a large number of gang leaders, and also for a bout of urban terrorism — particularly bombings — in Cape Town.

In the south west the range ecompasses an area between North West Cape, Cape Leeuwin and Eucla ; while in the east it covers are large region bounded by the Atherton Tableland, the Eyre Peninsula and Tasmania, with the Murray Darling Basin supporting very large populations of Black Swans.

The Cape Middleveld is also characterized by large depressions, or " pans ," where rainfall collects, providing sustenance for a variety of plants and animals.

When the voyage resumed in June 1874, the route went east from Sydney to Wellington in New Zealand, followed by a large loop north into the Pacific calling at Tonga and Fiji, and then back westward to Cape York in Australia by the end of August.

The African or Cape buffalo ( Syncerus caffer ) is a large horned bovid.

Cape May County is governed by a Board of Chosen Freeholders consisting of five members elected at large in partisan elections to serve staggered three-year terms in office.

Local bands like the John D. Hale Band of Cape Girardeau occasionally have concerts at The Rustic Lodge and this generally tends to draw large crowds.

As a result of this and of more recent preservation efforts, Cape May is noted for its large number of well-maintained Victorian houses — the second largest collection of such homes in the nation after San Francisco.

Upper Township is a large township in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States.

The Ainu were distributed in the northern and central islands of Japan, from Sakhalin island in the north to the Kuril islands and the island of Hokkaidō and Northern Honshū, although some investigators place their former range as throughout Honshū and as far north as the southern tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula in what is now Cape Lopatka.

The United States provided emergency humanitarian aid and economic assistance to Cape Verde in the period immediately following Cape Verde's independence, as well as after natural disasters, including a hurricane that struck the island of Brava in 1982, and after a severe volcanic eruption on Fogo in 1995.

The municipality, unchanged at the Kallikratis reform, includes islets other than Ithaca including two near Cape Melissa, Arkoudi and Atokos to the northeast and the numerous islets in the Echinades Island group ( the larger ones being Drakonera, Makri, Oxeia, Petalas, and Vromonas ) to the east near the mainland of Aetolia-Acarnania.

The Highveld stretches from Western Cape Province to the northeast, encompassing the entire Free State ( formerly the Orange Free State ).
