Conifer forests are predominant, chiefly Anatolian black pine ( Pinus nigra ), Cedar of Lebanon ( Cedrus libani ), Taurus fir ( Abies cilicica ), and juniper ( Juniperus foetidissima and J. excelsa ).

The island of Chrysi, 15 km south of Ierapetra, has the largest naturally grown Lebanon Cedar forest in Europe.

The Lebanese Armed Forces Emblem consists of a Lebanon Cedar tree surrounded by two laurel leaves, positioned above the symbols of the three branches: the ground forces represented by the two swords, the navy represented by an anchor, and the air force represented by two wings.

The Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Lebanon ( topped by a huge Cedar of Lebanon ) feature tombs, vaults and winding paths dug into hillsides.

Pinus gerardiana, known as the Chilgoza Pine ( Urdu: چلغوزا پائن in Persian it means 40 nuts in one cone: چهل و غوزه ), ' noosa ', or ' neoza ', is a pine native to the northwestern Himalaya in eastern Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northwest India, growing at elevations between 1800 – 3350 m. It often occurs in association with Blue Pine ( Pinus wallichiana ) and Deodar Cedar ( Cedrus deodara ).

The surrounding forests consist of Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, Red Cedar, Poplar, Quaking Aspen, Hemlock, Paper Birch and Western Larch.

Certain hardwoods that are currently used for exterior shutters, specifically Spanish Cedar, Honduran Mahogany and Teak, have grain that actually breathes out moisture making them resistant to rot and decay, and far more durable than a softer wood like pine.

Cedar and pine bedding have wood oils that are dangerous to hedgehogs and can cause lung issues and even sores.

Cedar and pine, even kiln-dried, should not be used as they release aromatic oils that damage the respiratory system and can cause or exacerbate chronic respiratory disease.

The major commercial Forest species are White Fir, Red Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Jeffrey pine, Sugar Pine, Douglas Fir, and Incense Cedar.

In historic preservation it can be used as a substitute for Thuja plicata ( Western Red Cedar ) and Taxodium distichum ( Baldcypress ), due to current difficulties in obtaining quality timber of those species due to environmental concern and past over-exploitation, although this applies equally to Nootka Cypress.

The Nootka Cypress is used extensively by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast, along with another cypress, Thuja plicata ( Western Red Cedar ).

While Western Red Cedar was preferred for larger projects ( houses, canoes ), Nootka Cypress, was used for smaller carvings such as vessels and utensils.

However, " Red Cedar " is the most used common name.
