A. S. Roma was founded in the summer of 1927 when a secretary of the National Fascist Party, Italo Foschi, initiated the merger of three older Italian Football Championship clubs from the city of Rome ; Roman FC, SS Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS.

It came two years before an inter-club rugby game under the auspices of the Rugby Football Union would be played in England ; though it must be remembered that rugby had been codified 24 years before this in 1845 and played by many schools, universities and clubs even before the laws were first put on paper.

Australian Rules Football has had a presence in the city since 1999 and there are now three clubs in the Capital ; the Dublin Demons, the South Dublin Swans and the West Dublin Saints.

The National Football League changed its rule in 2007, so that a ball carrier merely touching the pylon is insufficient to score a touchdown ; the ball must actually enter the end zone.

This move away from Essendon, at a time when fans would walk to their local ground, did not go over well with many Essendon people ; and, as a consequence, a new team and club was formed in 1900, unconnected with the first ( although it played in the same colours ), that was based at the Essendon Cricket Ground, and playing in the Victorian Football Association.

It had a " golden age " in the United Kingdom in the early 1920s when crowds reached 50, 000 at some matches ; this was stopped on 5 December 1921 when England's Football Association voted to ban the game from grounds used by its member clubs.

In 1951, Labatt launched its Pilsener Lager ; when it was introduced in Manitoba, the beer was nicknamed " Blue " for the colour of its label and the company's support of Winnipeg's Canadian Football League ( CFL ) franchise, the Blue Bombers.

Newton Heath initially played on a field on North Road, close to the railway yard ; the original capacity was about 12, 000, but club officials deemed the facilities inadequate for a club hoping to join The Football League.

The team was founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original member of the American Football League ; later, the franchise joined the NFL in the AFL – NFL merger.

In 1935, the Militsiya created a special system of personal ranks that was a blend of standard military ranks and position-ranks ; this system was largely reused by the newly-created Main Directorate of State Security ( GUGB ) in their rank structure, although they had Commissar-style ranks for top officers in place of Militsiya-style inspector and director.
